Favours

BoroKate, 31 October, 2009 at 18:43 Posted on Planning 0 26

What is everyone putting in their favour boxes/ bags if you're having them?

I think im gonna have a go at making a few bits for our wedding to keep costs down. Im still not sure if I want boxes of some sort or organza bags and I definately don't know what to put in them. Im not a fan of the traditional sugared almonds and was thinking of chocolates instead but not sure.

I'd love any suggestions that I could pinch!

I wanted something that people could keep, rather than eat. So for the women I'm giving them some seeds to plant in their garden. You can buy cards that look like birthday cards which you write a message in but the tissue paper leaves/flowers on the front have seeds bedded in them so you pull them off and plant them. Or you can buy these tissue paper leaves/flowers individually and put them in bags/boxes.

I'm struggling with a gift for the men so will probably make a donation to charity and give them a pin or keyring associated to that charity. x

For the ladies we are going 2 ferrero rocher chocolates in a truffle box and guys are having minature whiskey...

Lottery tickets for guests are quite popular and I think a good idea

We're getting married abroad, so to fit with the theme we're having personalised fans for the women....not sure about the men! First thought was miniature whiskey's too or personalised cigars.

If we were getting married over here it probably would have been lottery tickets or charity pins!

I also wanted to make favours and something they could keep, hit a stumbling block with men so have settled on miniture whisky like Gillsy, and I am hand making personalised wine glass charms for ladies and putting in organsa bags I found on ebay, Ive ordered so many they should be enough to do evening guest some sweets in them. Also having caricaturist for day guests. Because we are having a rustic woody theme the name places will be carved out of wood so hopefully people will want to take them home to keep.

    Other ideas I played with;

    personalised lip balm,

    book mark

    bottle stop

    lottery ticket

We are having charity pins; split between Everyman cancer, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Birthmark Support Group which are 3 charities very close to our hearts.

I have a mock up somewhere around here which the people who have been around longer have probably seen hundreds of times but I could find if you wanted to see...!

I love the idea of charity pins! My mum being her delightful self however decided we couldn't possibly do this so we have gone for a mini tube of love hearts and 2 chocs in a favour box for each person...They actually look really good all put together and cost about £30 all in for 80 people

    Here you go:

The tags aren't how I'm having them, that was just a mock to show how the tags will look attached to them.

We're having organza bags with silver dragees & a dove shaped soap. Then for the women, dove shaped bottle stops & for the men, dove shaped bottle openers ? We only have 1 child coming to the wedding & he'll be 18months... any idea what we could give to him?!

We had mini tubes of Love Hearts with labels personalised with our names and wedding date and little chocolate hearts. We just placed them on the napkins rather than getting boxes or bags to put them in.

To be honest, we were never planning on having them either.

But we have done two big fundraising events for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Birthmark Support Group over the last two years (a 10,000ft skydive and a 13 mile walk) and we figure it's a way to show those who have supported us when we did them that their support for the charities were greatly appreciated and also that we are still continuing with our support for them too. Does that make sense?! Also, were it not for GOSH and BSG, my niece would most likely not be with us anymore so anything I can do to raise the awareness of the work both these charities do I will. This seemed like a nice gesture toward this.

Be careful with alcohol, some venues don't allow you to have it (like ours: Cooling Castle Barn)

Yeah, Joanne is right - I've heard some girls say that their venue didn't allow them - because of this I checked before I bought mine.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, I wish I had a bit of a theme to run through my wedding and match the favours to this like some of you guys - you're all so creative.

Then again my colours are champagne & chocolate so I suppose a minature bottle for the men and chocs for the women would sort of be in keeping with that lol

You inspired me to have another think and its just come to me!!! I had wanted ot take the idea of fertility, health, wealth, happiness and longevity but put a twist on it soooooo..

the other half is big sweet fan so I've thought we could have a jelly baby or mini egg for fertility, fruit shaped sweets for health, gold coin or edible paper money for wealth, hearts or lips for happiness nd mybe foam teeth for longevity after we've rotted everybodies with the all the sweets!!! lol!!!

I just need to check with the other half when he gets home from work!!!

I got married in September and I was stressing out about what I would have. I was told by the wedding coordinator at out venue that most favours end up in the bin!! We decided not to have any.The clutter up the tables, end up in the bin and cost money. You are already giving your guests a nice day out.We had a jazz singer during our meal...ok she cost a little more that the favours but so a joy to listen to on the day.

    Good luck
