Home-made is the easiest way to get "unique". What are you good at making? Foodie things? Crafty things? Can you sew/sketch/bead/etc?

Hi, yes, im not creative but I can copy things and I have helpers. I wanted to give something memorable and meaningful. I dont know how many wedding ive been to and the favours have all been left behind.

I was thinking of maybe baking or putting together nice boxes and buying hotel chocolat to put in it.

As i am not creative I need ideas! HELP!!!!!

Don't forget to factor in the logistics of it all.

If you're doing cakes, they'll possibly need to be made fresh in the day or so before the wedding - when you probably have a million and one other things that need doing.

Anything largeish, you need the space to store it and carry it all down to the venue.

In the majority of cases, favours aren't appreciated anywhere near as much as they should be, which is why I always caution people against spending too much time or money on them, particularly for a large wedding.

We're doing the 5 traditional things differently rather than 5 sugared almonds:

Fertility: Aster seeds (it's the flower of September, when we're getting married, for people to plant next year so they're flowering on our first anniversary) in little plastic bags from Ebay

Happiness: Some sweets, as the sugar in them makes people happy.

Wealth: A chocolate mint wrapped in green foil which matches our colour scheme - "minted" for wealth, of course.

Longevity: An individual portion of long life milk, so guests can have a cuppa when they get home (ok we were a bit stuck on this one...)

Health: Sugared almonds, as nuts are good for you (if you disregard the coating...)

all in some organza circles and ribbon that we got from Ebay.

I have made bag charms. AJs ideas are lovely. I considered but rejected (didn't fit with out theme, not because I went off the idea):

A little mint tin like this:

with several items in (similar to AJ's)

A seed of some kind, a single line love quote, printed onto a narrow strip of paper, curled up and tied with a thread, a sweetie of some description, a sentimental item (e.g. I have a handful of gravel from the early days of our relationship - don't ask - but a nugget of this in each), etc etc

Jam lasts ages? And cookies and cakes can be frozen and iced nearer the time. That said, I wanted to do all those things and now have 2 weeks to go and glad I didnt - there is just so much more to be thinking of. We have bought some lovely miniture cookie jars (well, they are spice jars I think, but look like cookie jars) from Ikea (4 for £2.50) and marshmallows / flying saucers. We have filled the jars with alternate sweets (so people can have fun trading! Everyone wants the saucers!) and then over the lid we have put material on top fixed with twine...They look really lovely, and quite rustic as all the bits of fabric are different and quite shabby chic. Attached to the twine and hanging from the sweet jar is a trolley tag from the british heart foundation, which is the charity close to my heart.

There are so many lovely ideas out there. I know that people may leave them, but I need some spice jars anyway, so not that fussed if a few do get left behind!

We are having charity favours from cancer research. My Dad died of cancer two years ago and I dont think there are many that have no been affected by this in some way. If the actual favours (pin badges) get left behind then at least my donation will have done some good.

I like your suggestion. I think thats a good idea to give to charity, that way at least you know your money has been spent well.

We have done donations to Cancer Research too and they sent us Favour cards, and as well so that people have something to take home, we have purple and ivory organza bags with rope ties each with 6 purple foil wrapped chocolate balls and one white and silver "Thank you for sharing our special day" chocolates inside.

We had little iced cookies and there were none left over (although I think a couple of children went on the look for left overs after the WB!)

You can just about see them on the tables. They had a message card which we had a little personal thank you on for each guest. You can also bake cookies and freeze them so you don't have the stress of making them too close to the wedding. My sisters friend had DIY ginger bread men that also went down well!

My favourite favour from a wedding was a hand made glass wine bottle stopper which we have used a lot. I don't think they were cheap though!

we are doing the same thing. 100 Cancer Research pins-OH's dad and my uncle died of cancer, My mum and dad survived cancer. We are also doing 100 British Heart pins as we have a history of heart problems on my Dads side.

We were of the same thinking that if they get left at least we know the money has gone to a good cause.

    Hi

We're doing bags of sweeties for the kiddies - mixed sorts from mini marshmallows, jelly worms and flies for the boys, jelly cherries and strawberries etc - these were about £1.50 each from Cocoapod.

Hand knitted rattle shaped like a cupcake for the babies - these were about £4 each.

Miniature port bottles for the men (we're having a cheese board buffet in the evening also). These ranged from 99p to £1.75 each.

And aromatherapy bath melts for the women from KAT Aromatherapy - they smell lush and look so pretty too. These were about £1.60 each as my mum got them through her work but think they are about £1.99 on the website and they come individually boxed.

    HTH!

Im making Scottish Tablet as favours and popping them in gold organza bags. They will cost about £12 including the bags for 50 favours.

I wanted to to do something but i did not want to spend a fortune as i know they get wasted, this way its no great loss if they dont get used/forgotten.

My sister way telling me Home Bargins had mini bottles of "Champagne" for 89p, not sure if it will be totally rank or not but worth a try for that price?

We're going to go down the homemade route: definitely tablet, jam, and trying to think of something else - should be less that £2pp with packaging.
