favours

Miss-KEM, 6 April, 2015 at 14:20 Posted on Planning 0 18

Afternoon all

just wondering what everyone is doing for their wedding favours?

I've changed my mind a few times. We were going to do lottery tickets or scratch cards then changed to sweets or chocolates. Now i'm thinking possibly miniture bottles filled with some sort of cocktail.

As i say i've changed my mind a few times, these were just a handful of ideas we had.

Didn't really want to spend a lot as read on a few sites that they tend to get left by guests.

Not really keen on sweet ideas as we are having a candy bar in the evening.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We've made flavoured gin - raspberry and chilli & lime. Using some clubcard vouchers managed to do 90 for about 100 quid.

Just a word of warning for alcohol related favours, check with your venue that you are ok to have them, i know our venue does not allow it. We aaare doing away with favours, but i know some on here have had some amazing ones.

I prefer edible type favours, as I've seen lots of 'nik-nak' type favours left on tables before. Edible ones are generally cheaper too if yourself or a friend/relative can make them in advance. If you don't want something sweet, what about:

    - Infused oils or vinegars with rosemary, chilli, garlic, mint etc

    - Chutneys, jellies or pickles (chilli jelly, caramelised onion)

    - Cheese/chilli/savoury biscuits

    - fortune cookies

I am most likely not going to do favours as they get left a lot and cost a lot of money when you are having a large wedding like I will! The only potential idea is to have small heart shaped welsh cakes as my fiancé is Welsh and they are so quick and easy to make!

We had favours from cancer research, we bought 100 of the pins (loads of choice ) and they printed cards with our names and wedding date on which we assembled ourselves

We kept changing our mind to but we've decided on a tiny bag of jelly beans and a lego brick box with a chocolate inside.

The box's are taking me ages to make and I no that the chocolate will get eaten then the box will go in the bin, I have declared to my other half after hours of box making that if people don't ohh and aww at them I will throw them at the guests. Lol.

I don't think you can go wrong with some sort of food or sweets.

Saying that I think the lottery idea sounds fun.

We decided against. We're only a small group < 30 and had planned to give individual jars of home made mustard. On reflection for this sized group its a lot more efficient to make a large pot for the cheese course - it keeps it a personal contribution. If anyone really likes it we can pop some in a jar or make a fresh batch for them.

I have printed Kraft bags with haribo rings (H2B proposed with a Haribo). Vegetarian guests will have love hearts instead.

Thanks for the suggestions. Those charity pins are a lovely idea. I love those lego boxes too. I would be very impressed if I got that. I always keep favours from weddings i go to but i know others don't.

wow so many different ideas to choose from, you're all very creative.

We had a sweet bar as well but thought the pins were lovely as have been to several weddings with favours that we didn't keep but we thought a) it was nice to remember people who wouldn't be there and b) no one would ever moan about getting a cancer research pin as a wedding favour hehe

On discovering Pinterest and due to having a small wedding, am thinking of making tiny potted shrubs with little labels saying ' let love grow' with our names and initials on it.

The first set of favours ever bought were edible chocolate hearts, personalised rock slices and little packs of Love Hearts and demolished by my OH one night I was working late. To extent, he is still not able to look at Love Heart sweets - serves him right.

Wow still more lovely ideas being suggested. i want them all. Your guests are all very lucky.

i'm finding it's the smaller things which aren't as important that are the hardest to decide on.

We've decided on something edible too - purely so that things aren't (hopefully) less likely to be left behind (and even if they are left behind - we can eat them ourselves!). MIL2B is a brilliant cook / baker and has offered to make us different flavour fudge, so each guest will have 3 or 4 pieces of fudge (all different flavours) in a cellophane bag. Would have loved to do an alcoholic favour but venue won't allow it Smiley sad

I keep going back and forth on this! My ‘decisions’ so far have included: mini sweets/chocolates in small paper bags stamped with a personalised stamp, Love Hearts with personalised wrappers, chocolate coins that say ‘Just Married’ on them, and homemade biscuits. At the moment I’m leaning towards not having any favours at all! I think it may depend on how all the other planning goes (as we haven’t actually booked anything yet and I can imagine ditching the favours because I don’t want another thing to organise!) and our budget – I wouldn’t really want to spend more than £0.60 max per person. I’ve been to two weddings so far this year and neither had favours, but both had pick n mix sweetie bars, and I can’t say I missed having a favour to take home.

We are having not having a sit down meal as such so there was no where on the tables that made sense to put favors. Instead I have bought two big vases and am filling one with Love Heart sweets and one with OH's favorite chewy bars. I am going to put them near the guest book with a little note to say to help yourself x
