Favours?!?!?!?

MrsStanleyToBe, 20 March, 2018 at 10:30 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hello lovelies

I'm starting to get really excited now, finally my time is almost here ... well 10 months away, but much closer than I was 3 years ago ?

I think I'm almost there with everything, the one thing that I'm stuck on is favours, are you all doing favours? I want something different but all the websites that I've looked at 'Unusual favours' aren't really that unusual ?

I've heard that the favours are supposed to represent the couple and so all I've come up with is alcohol and cats ?

I'd really appreciate any ideas or websites that you may have

Happy Planning All x

I'm doing personalised fortune cookies, saw the idea here but have never come across it before at a wedding. They are cheap and original, just Google for suppliers.

    Hi!

Congratulations on your wedding! I can tell you’re excited haha Smiley smile

did you consider air plants in small hanging baubles to give away as favours? Or maybe even small succulent pots? Xx

    hope that helps!

As you say, many ideas that people have that they thing are unusual are actually pretty commonly found at other weddings. Whilst I'd never tell someone what to have or not have at their wedding, I would suggest, controversially perhaps, you consider either doing something incredibly personal, or no favours at all. The problem with favours is that you need dozens if not hundreds of them, so unless you have a huge budget each one is likely to cost very little and therefore isn't likely to be hugely impressive, unless it's something you've created yourselves.

The original reason to have favours was a small gift to thank you guests for attending, but I've always felt that the food, the drinks and the entertainment (on which you're probably spending thousands) are thanks enough and that's before you get to the emotional side of your inviting them to be a part of your special day.

As for something personal, I'd be happier to receive, say, a handwritten card signed by the bride and groom than, say, a little box of chocolates, a lollipop or some sugared almonds, regardless of whose initials were stamped on them!

As I often say to couples, if budget is limited, spend your hard earned money on something that's going to make the day special - a better DJ so that everyone really enjoys the dancing, an extra glass of Champagne because everyone loves a toast, or having really good coffee and petit fours after dinner.

    Best of luck.

We aren't doing them as they will just end up let on tables in most cases and can be quite expensive in the first place.

We're thinking of having reusable plastic cups with our initials and wedding date printed - we're also having a free/BYO bar, so it means people can keep the cup to use all evening saving broken glasses!

We're also considering our own brewed gin, and instead of canapes for after the ceremony, making our own scones and jam.

Also, Amazon sell really cute vintage key bottle openers, for a fairly cheap price!

    Have fun! X

Favours are such a tricky one aren't they! The majority of guests end up leaving them on the table and you've wasted possible up to a £100 on something that wasn't really needed.

We have decided to make a donation to Antony Nolan Trust who helped my partners dad through his bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately he passed away so we wanted to buy some badges to say a donation has been made on our guests behalf. We would much rather use the money for something good and we know our guests will understand and hopefully appreciate why that is important to us.

There are several charities that do that, perhaps even cats association or something if that's important to you as a couple?

I'd suggest something edible, but not cheap chocolate, or maybe a shot or drink token? We're doing favours however I don't think they're missed if they aren't there.

You dont have to have anything but if you do It doesn't have to be anything expensive but just personal to you both I photographed an English/Chinese wedding and they were struggling so I suggested something very important to both cultures ----- Tea ! so everyone got a tea bag

If everyone knows you love cats do something cat related! We collect magnets from our travels so we were initially planning on having magnets made but they were expensive so we took a cheaper more generic option.

We are only having 25 people for a meal after our wedding and we were going to skip the favours but I bought some badges, torches and trolly tokens from the British heart foundation so the guests get something and we have made a donation to a charity as well.

    Hi,

How about the wooden place names that people use for marking out where people will be sitting and also they then

use them as the wedding favour it's self?

I've seen lots of them on Facebook from companies that supply them not badly priced either! I came across one on Facebook that were charging 28p each name I think this is a great price especially when us brides don't want to fork out so much for something that may well be thrown away! x
