February 2014 Brides to be!

Feb2014Bride , 20 March, 2013 at 16:58 Posted on Planning 0 374

Any February 2014 brides to be out there?

How is the planning going? What’s on the to do list this month?

What’s already booked?

I am getting married on Saturday 15th February. Venue booked (all taking place in one venue), registrar booked, dress bought, got some centre piece vases as they were on offer £4 each!

Next on the list; bridesmaids dresses and honeymoon.

Hope the planning is going well!

    Hello! Feb2014bride Smiley smile

Getting married on Friday 14th February.

    Got booked

Vw camper for trip there for me and brides

bridesmaids dresses from eBay, I've got the petticoats just jazzing them up.

Venue booked and registrar penciled in

    got the rings

making invites still done about 40 so far

crystal tree centerpieces being made by my mum ATM.

now I'm busy sorting out moving into a house. So having a few weeks off the wedding stuff.

April I've got to sort my dress and visit the venue for a wedding fair they have on. Smiley smile

Ah brilliant, the day before too - that could be very useful for timings and tips.

Making your own invites, thats really good, i was thinking about it but then saw some on Ebay that were really well priced, £50 for 75 (this can be a mix of day and evening) i think i'll go with that.

We are moving soon too, just waiting for a date now - two of the most stressful things in 11 months - must be mad.

Well have a brilliant time at the wedding fair, its so lovely to see how it will all be set out. Im going to try and calm my planning down soon as i am stressing over petticoats (want a hoopless one but cant find one for my dress) and also photographs (to have photographs by the lake people will have to walk through the reception room before dinner, takes the sparkle away i think).

Was the date anything to do with Valentines? Ours wasnt just the only weekend in Feb that fell into place, everything keeps saying how much more romantic it will be though Smiley smile

I wish I just paid for someone else to make ours invites ... Too late now lol.

Got engaged on valentines 4 years ago and thou it would be nice to have it all on one (makes anniversaries cheaper too!).

I've been swinging between packing, playing with my 21month old, making invites and sewing petticoats!

It's all really stressful moving and wedding planning!

    Hi

I'm a Feb 2014 bride. We are getting married on the 22nd. I have booked the church and the reception venue so far. We have decided on our TOG I just need to pay the deposit and I have been e-mailing a caterer about a tasting. That is it so far. I think I have loads of time to do everything else. My sister is traveling at the moment so I won't start dress shopping until she is back in June. I expect I'll do more then as I can get my dress and the bridesmaid dresses all together. She will make my centerpieces as she is a glass blower so she will make vases for the tables. We have a farm and have pet peacocks so I will collect their tail feathers when they fall out later in the year to go in the vases. I might buy some white/pale flowers to go with them but again I'll decide that much nearer the time! So thats it for me.

Thought I would bump this up ... How is the planning going? I seem to be doing really well, lots of ticks and green on the spreadsheet.

    So far got / booked:

    Venue

    Booked Registrar

    My dress

Petticoat / fur coat / veil / shoes / bag

Flower girl dresses and cardigans – a risk but were too good to pass up.

    Centre pieces / swags

    Candy Table

    Name Places

Cake boxes – got 40 for £4 in Poundland! Amazing and not bothered if they are not used

Flip Flops for all women day guests

Hair & make up booked – luckily wedding presents from friends

Artificial flowers – not a fan of real unfortunately

So next on my list is:

    Book Photographer

    Book the DJ

Book the videographer – found a lady who looks brilliant and is a really good price, just can’t get in contact with her, annoying.

Got invitation samples through and love them so will be ordering these soon too as they take 2 months to come.

When is everyone planning on sending invites out? Anyone considering doing it slightly earlier because of Christmas?

Also giving notice? I wasn’t planning on doing this until November time? But seems everyone does it way before this?

    Hi All

I've still not done a lot, church and venue booked. I have now booked the TOG and been to the tasting but we haven't booked the caterer just yet. My OH has picked his ring but we haven't bought that yet either.

I think we will send invites late August/September time as a lot of our friends and family have to travel so they will need time to book hotels and in some cases flights. We haven't looked at invites yet so have no idea what we will have for that either.

    Still loads of time luckily.

Everyone's so organised! I only got engaged 2 weeks ago though, that's my excuse! I'm getting married 22nd Feb, we're going to pay the venue deposit on Sunday which includes ceremony room, reception room, meal, buffet and drinks. We've provisionally booked the registrar but will pay the deposit for this later this week. And...that's it! Although boyfriend's friend is the photographer we want and he's available on the day, just need boyf to get a quote out of him, he's much more laid back than me! Also we've had a quote from the band we want, who also DJ, but I want to see them first before confirming as it's quite expensive to me

For those of you who are having bands, how much are you paying?

I'm hoping to book some dress appointments for the second weekend of June, which is the first weekend I'm free!

Congrats on the recent engagement wifeytobe88 – and well done on the fast planning.

Lisacoleman139 – you’re the day before me. Is it especially for valentines or just a date that fits, like mine.

I think we will be sending invites out beginning of October with an RSVP by date 14th December – this allows 2 weeks to chase people and also Christmas before the final numbers need to be in on 3rd January.

No not having a band, budget doesn’t stretch that far unfortunately. We are having a DJ – the venue offered their resident DJ for £550! I thought this was a big extravagant, my sister has recommended one for £249 so will be going with this.

I hit the 9 Month mark tomorrow! Very excited indeed, can’t stop looking in my planner and willing the next pay day to hurry up.

Also willing August to come so i can get my hands on my dress.

Only thing I didn’t consider before booking the wedding was .... Half Term!!! The week of our honeymoon, which means higher prices but luckily we have found an over 18’s very small resort in Mexico, yay.

Not a Feb bride?!? Be gone at once haha.

Dress shopping this weekend, you must be so excited! I found my dress the first weekend, i was so lucky the dress came out that month, meant to be. Any styles in mind or just going open minded?

Have you given notice? Or doing this at a later date? The reason i havent is i want to change my passport before going so though i would get it signed while giving notice? Not sure now though.

Feb2014bride, no im afraid it was the date I wanted!! I actually bookedit today! we were originally getting married in November, but we had to change date due to money issues, so weve scaled down the reception a bit, were getting married at Stamford registry office and im waiting for my venue to confirm they have that date free or ill find a new venue, having a 3 course meal and drinks in evening, hoping few other people come and join us, wel stay overnight in the hotel too.

Im so excited we got that date!!

Ive found the dress, which is ruby so perfect for Valentines day!! OH has his suit, got bridesmaids/photographer sorted, know what centre peices im doing, im making cupcakes for favours as im good at baking, its all sorted, just need to win the lottery!!!

Wow you have some lovely ideas there. Our theme is navy too, going to look so smart in winter.

Loving the hair ideas. Dress looks lovely! Good luck with the hunting.

Oh can you let me know how the notice goes please? Our registrar just said we needed to pay in October and give notice at least 2 weeks before. I might hunt for the email and just confirm, imagine no registrar on the day.

Same here!! I think the date will add to the romance for sure, just means i have to spend valentines night away from the OH but worth it to be getting married the next day.

All this talk has got me even more excited!!

This weekend I bought 23 pairs of flip flops for women day guests, i know the silly shoes my friends wear and they wont survive the night ha. Got some funny looks in Primark.

I love buying the little bits.

Can't wait to start looking for dresses girls! I've fallen in love with the So Sassi Kelsey dress (although have only seen a pic, not in real life) but the prices are £1,000 - £2,000 ☹️

Can I ask, how much are people budgeting for their dresses? My parents are very kindly paying for our whole reception, and the future in laws for the registrar, so my boyfriend and I are adamant we're going to pay for the rest. But I think £5k for EVERYTHING is our limit, so not sure what type of dress that would allow at this stage.

I budgeted £700 however .... My dress was £500 more I know that's a lot over budget but nothing at all came close to my dress. My OH convinced me to just go for it or I would regret it. I suppose looking back I should have told the bridal shop my real budget. Also this doesn't include alterations. They said allow £200 for them ?

Would you consider a pre-loved dress? Worth a look?

Hi I'm a MoB, but doing most of the organising (and paying!) for my daughter's wedding. She got engaged January 2011 and planned to marry in April 2013 but last June she was involved in a serious car crash and was off work for six months while her legs healed (she's now got rods and pins). She's still not walking as well as she used to and may never do so. But that wasn't the end of it. Two weeks after her accident her H2B's youngest brother (the best man, aged 19) was thrown from his motorbike by a car and in a replica of her accident was flown by air ambulance to the same hospital.

However, he's not been so lucky and is now in a wheelchair, immobilised from just under the arms downwards (with limited arm and hand movement). He will never walk again. By August, not knowing how things were going to pan out, and with three close family deaths, we decided to move the wedding. We had to pick a date during a school holiday (my daughter works in a school) and finally picked Monday 17 February - the reason? It was the date her grandparents got married and it will be their 56th anniversary on that day.

She is wearing her grandmother's dress (remade at the bottom due to stains) so the date seemed really fitting. We're going to have a cake for them to cut as well - but haven't told them!

We've got lots of stuff done because the wedding was originally in April! The colours are silver/white and navy with some sparkle. We discuss all the ideas and then I do all the hard work negotiating etc!! We're having lots of fun though and doing lots of DIY! I've got loads of great ideas from sites like this and can't believe how much more there is than there was when I married her father!!

We've managed to get a few real bargains through Ebay. Saw the bridesmaid dress we wanted for her youngest sister in Monsoon - £179 then saw it on ebay and won it for £10!! In perfect condition and previously taken up for someone of 5ft 2in (which we needed to do) so saved there too!!

    Hi

I am a Feb 2014 bride too, getting married on 15th February. We are having a navy blue and heart theme. I have booked most things now:

venue, photographer, registrar, wedding dress, photographer, cake, venue styling, hair and make up, bridesmaid dress maker and flowers.

Just bits now to do like jewellery, shoes and table decorations. I am making my own invitations, so that is a summer job! I am sorting the suits out for the men in December, as advised by the hire shop.

    Exciting times!

Clwinter - Date twin and same colour theme. I think navy will look beautiful in the winter. Struggling to find suitable (and price friendly) BM’s dressed though.

Your even further ahead than me – i think i better get a move on with my TOG.

Winter tree – sorry can’t help you on the make up front. I am one of them annoying people who has a friend that is doing mine. She is a professional makeup artist – she is supplying everything too. Better get her a huge thank you.

I am not that confident doing my makeup myself for big events. If you have budgeted for one then i say use a MUA – seen a few people on here advise it.

Mrsdsooon – Hi and welcome *waves* sorry to hear your struggling to find your dress – have you been trying on or just looking on the internet?

MrsDsoon don't worry aboutyour dress I haven't really started looking yet. I've looked in a couple of magazines and online but I don't like any of them. I have no intention of actually dress shopping before July so there is no rush.

I think blue will be very popular this winter I am having peacock colours so navy, teal maybe some purple but hopefully not! As we have peacocks on our farm so I am going to collect their tail feathers when they fall out to use for decorations and in our flowers. I haven't looked for BM dresses either but they will be blue I expect. OH wants to wear a grey suit so thats fine we'll just hire them much nearer the time.

I'd like to confirm our caterer and bar next really then we have the church a venue for the reception a TOG for memories and food and drink. The rest won't really matter I don't think. Oh except rings maybe we should find me a ring although I do know what style I would like I just need to find a supplier.

As for MUA I have booked one (maybe I'm further ahead than I thought) as although I am fairly confidnet doing my own I usually wear 50's style make-up and getting the eye-liner right would stress me right out on the day. I have spoken to my regular hair dresser who will do my hair on the day but we are focussing on dying it back to brown at the moment and growing it out. I've had a bright red bob for the last couple of years but I'd like to look a bit more classical on my wedding day.

Oh yay! There's a few of us, I thought I was the only mad person to be marrying in the middle of winter - 1 Feb is my date :-)! I've pretty much done everything apart from sort out favours and veil and I'm just enjoying having a bit of time to do nothing :-)! My theme is midnight blue, seems to be popular!

Oh and p.s. we gave notice on Monday. Had to bring our passports and a letter from the people we had been staying with for our notice period confirming we had actually stayed there. It was quiet simple and no horrific questions (I was so nervous but didn't need to be!) and it was £35.00 per person.

    :-) xx

Glad to hear this, i can just imagine them asking the OH the wedding date and him forgetting. Still havent looked at when I need to pay for our registrar or give notice, better get on the case. We have paid the booking fee so its secure i know that much.

Well navy / midnight blue make a change from Cadburys purple - the last 3 weddings i have been to have had this colour.

I love the idea of a winter wedding, i have got my short fur jacket already (£21 total steal) as there is a lake with a bridge over it at our venue and i would love a few pictures on it.

Anyone having adult bridesmaids wearing long navy dresses? I'm struggling to find a nice dress within budget.

I am having my two older sisters as bridesmaids and I have to say their dress is the only thing that has really stressed me out! They both have different body shapes so I have had a nightmare finding a midnight blue dress that will suit their body shape. So, I have picked a design I like from a wedding magazine and I am getting a dressmaker to make the dress for me. She is doing their dress for about £150. It is lovely and has solved the problem I have had.

Have you looked at dessy? They have a good range of dresses.
