Fed up of searching Honeymoon destinations! :(

BridetobeMrsS, 16 April, 2015 at 01:29 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi ladies

i am pulling my hair out here, trying to decide on the ideal wedding destination within our budget, any ideas would be really appreciated!

we want somewhere a bit out of the ordinary, so not typical summer holiday Europe/Egypt destinations. Looking at long haul destinations. As we'd be travelling around the 27th july for approx 10 days, I'm looking at weather expectations for July/august. It seems to rule out Thailand, Mauritius, Carribean etc due to rainy/hurricane seasons as I'd like guaranteed good weather. A relaxing beach/pool holiday would be fine (initially we wanted to do an American road trip but we just don't have the budget for it!)

budget is around £3k for both of us.

Feels like I'm looking for something that doesn't exist! Smiley sad

Have you looked at Cape Verde? It's supposed to be lovely and looks very much like a caribbean type destination. Might be worth a look.

We're planning on going to Cuba, although we won't go until jan/feb when it's cooler - I have ridiculously pale skin. You can often get great deals for Cuba.

What's wrong with Europe/Africa? There are some amazing places to visit, the weather would be right for when you're looking to go, and you could get something much swankier for your money because you're not paying for long haul flights. Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt are amazing, or you could go somewhere beautiful like Italy, or go a little less touristy and go for somewhere like Croatia.

Have you thought about Sri lanka?

I haven't been but my brother in law had his honeymoon there and they loved it. Lots to do. Also if you can be flexible with dates and go for beginning of sept you will get more for your money as its the summer holidays when you fly so prices shoot up :-/

Tunisia is amazing country, Perfect time of year for a beach holiday, and i could recommend a couple of very nice hotels where you would get spoilt rotten!

I was like this. It was driving me mad! We decided on Mauritius in the end. First 2 weeks of September. just to let you know in the Caribbean and mauritius etc, their 'rainy season' or 'tropical storms' are not bad at all! I've been to Dominican and mexico in their rainy seasons and when it rains it's for like 10 minutes really heavy then before you know it it's beautiful blazing sunshine again! from experience I really wouldn't let the 'rainy season' tag put you off somewhere.

I did exactly the same as you (I was looking for a June honeymoon) and ended up going to an independent travel agent - I wished I'd done it before as she immediately came up with Thailand. Like you, I had dismissed Thailand because of the monsoon, but she recommended Koh Samui which is on the other side of the mainland and has totally different weather. Our budget was £4k and we've ended up in a 5* hotel. So I suggest you go to an independent travel agent firstly, but think about Koh Samui - in fact if you go onto trip advisor there's a forum for Koh Samui so you can ask on there what the weather would be like in July. Good luck!

Zanzibar is meant to be nice in June. We went in November and it was lovely. Lots of sunshine, lovely beaches and snorkling. Bliss!

We went to Mauritius in March and it was lovely. The locals said it's very similar climate all year round. We had one day of rain out of 2 weeks so can't complain at that.

Also went to Mexico in June and it was lovely and hot. We had a couple of downpours but as someone else said, they lasted for about 10 mins and dried up so quickly.

If you're not too concerned about the risk of hurricanes I wouldn't let the rainy season put you off. We've been to the Dominican and Mexico in July and only had one night of torrential rain. It did rain heavily for about 10 minutes some afternoons but that was quite refreshing! As a previous poster mentioned there are some great deals to Cuba. We're going next month and it was much cheaper than the other places we've been.

We were the same until we found out the Golf Coast had different weather. We're going to Koh Samui after a couple nights in Bangkok. Can't wait!

Also I'm from Jamaica and have spent quite a few summers there. It's not constant rain at all, there are the odd showers but these don't last very long and actually cool things down a bit.

Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire in Caribbean are outside the hurricane belt so maybe worth having a look. There's also little to no rain there throughout the whole year, as there are no seasons. We spent ages looking for a honeymoon destination and end up picking Bonaire. We loved it so much that we decided that we have to go there again ?

    Hi BridetobeMrsS,

In your original post you stated you wanted to do an America road trip but it wasn't in your budget. Last year for my 30th birthday myself and my partner went on a road trip of America and also added on Hawaii for the July 4th celebrations and that was actually when my partner proposed! The reason I'm explaining this is that it can be affordable depending on who you book with!

Have a look at www.americansky.co.uk, that's who we went with and they were absolutely fantastic! They have so many different options and even if you just sent them an email and explained what your budget is I am sure they will be able to come up with something for you.

Me and H2B are doing a road trip again of America for our honeymoon and going back to Hawaii as that's where we got engaged! ?

    I hope this helps! ?

Have you thought about Bali in Indonesia? We are going to Singapore and Bali in June for our honeymoon and it's come in at less than 3k, for mid-range hotels etc, so I'm sure for 3k you will get something fabulous. Bali and Signapore both generally have good weather all year round, and June to October ish is the dry season! Plus once you're in Bali, everything is so cheap!

Hope you find somewhere amazing Smiley smile

As someone suggested before ....... Zanzibar is great - do a couple of days in Stone Town and the rest at the beach (for swimming/snorkelling etc avoid the East coast - great beaches but the tide goes out for miles), Sri Lanka........nice people, good food, great place for buying gemstones...., Maldives - went last year for 5 days and stayed at Centara Ras Fushi (cheaper option than some of them and only 20 mins by boat from the airport in Male), Seychelles (can be done on a budget), South Africa......not a sun/beach holiday but you could hire a car and do the vineyards....... (thinking Cape Town area as it's the only bit I know).

Thanks so much for the helpful advice ladies, I'm very jealous of some of your holiday/honeymoon plans!

ive now researched a lot of the options you've provided me (very nearly ended up booking Mauritius over the weekend until I looked up the august weather reviews and realised it's consistently in the low 20's...just not hot enough for a proper beach and pool holiday, sad face) we're currently weighing up a very tempting choice for Barbados Smiley smile

    ^^ this!

We're getting married in November but we've booked Thailand. Like the above posters said there are a couple of different climates/seasons to work with in Thailand. We looked at Koh Samui but november is the rainy season so we booked Krabi as it's the best time to go! We're doing 2 nights dubai, 2 nights Bangkok and 10 nights 5* in Krabi. Got an AMAZING deal from independent travel experts too!!

    Hi ladies,

I just wanted to thank you all for your fab suggestions, they were really helpful. I investigated a lot of the different options but I am pleased to say this week we finally booked it and we've booked a 5* adults only all inclusive resort for 10 days in Cancun (Mexico)...fingers crossed that their 'hurricane season' doesn't live up to its name!!

I'm over the moon and MEGA excited! Eeek!

    Thanks again all xx

That's really good to know, initially I didn't particularly fancy Mexico but I've completely changed my mind now and I cannot wait!

Everyone seems to have good things to say about it, which is good Smiley smile
