Feel like we've been totally ripped off

What can we do?

we are in the process of buying a new house, the financial advisor came out last week, he scanned all our wage slips, bank statements etc and when he left, we felt that was it, our application would be submitted and we'd have a mortgage in place. we then get a letter from the mortgage company saying the wage slips never scanned properly and could we send them out, fair enough, these things happen. we then get another letter to say he ha scanned the wrong bank statements and could we send out specific ones. we started getting a bit annoyed by this time we then get a letter from our solicitor outlining the costs, one of which being the stamp duty which we'd never even thought about and the finincial advisor neglected to tells us, to make matters worse we then find out we should only have been charged £95 for his service which he charged us £295 for a lifetime service! we phoned and complained to the head office who told us he would have discussed the lifetime service fee and the one off fee with us which he didnt!!! we have been saving so hard for this house and if someone is sitting in your livingroom offering you a service for £95 or £295 i think i know which one we would have chosen, its now a case of his word against ours and we just feel sooo annoyed, i have no idea what to do!

sorry turned into a bit of a rant but its soo frustrating!!

I'm not sure what to suggest, but arent they regulated by the FSA? maybe contact them, or citizens advice?

Oh that is so frustrating, I would definately call the FSA they are there to ensure people are not mis-sold finance products, I would also advise his head office that you are contacting cthe FSA and citizens advice as they might just drop it to save the hassle for the sake of £200, its not much money to a company but to an individual its a lot to lose. I hope you get sorted x

I'm sorry to hear that, but did you go to their office to sort things out? Did that awful person gave you a receipt when you paid the 295 fee so you have an evidence that you paid that amount? I'm sorry for the questions but this is just the way I solve a problem. The head office should have the courtesy to tell you to go their office so you can discuss the situation with the person involved, if they are truly run an honest business. hope this helps.

Sorry to hear you've had a bad time. Our mortgage/financial advisor was really good. We bought our house in July 2007. The first time we met our financial advisor, he ran through all our finances. Wages, outgoings, living expenses any debts/credit cards. He saw our wage slips but never scanned them. He than ran few a few things like maximum amount we could bet a mortgage for and who we would not be able to get a mortgage with and the reasons why. He then left. Next day had an e-mail saying we were secured a mortgage on paper.

Throughout the whole buying experience he was there. Our solicitors were rubbish and the financial advisor rang them and kept jiggying them along. Whenever our home insurance is due to lapse he contacts us. He also sends us Christmas cards.

    Where abouts are you?

Really sorry you had a bad experience.

Good luck with all the buying fun.

I'm i scotland and its a company that is based down south so we cant go into the head office, the complaints guy gave me a phone the other day and i ranted down the phone for about 15mins, its sooooo frustrating, he just advised us to write a letter detailing all of our complaints and post it to the head office for the head guy to read but he's on holiday at the mo. we've written the letter so just need to see what comes back, he basically said the guy who came to see us is very experienced and well respected so its our word agianst his.

when we bought the house we are in at the moment we had no problems like this. the financial advisor was great but unfortunately he no longer works in the business.

we sent away all the extra things they needed today so hopefully the mortagage will be sorted in the next few days and that will be another step in the right direction and out of this nightmare. it makes me so mad though because we're not complainers and feel as if the company are just taking the p!ss. That guy may very well be well respected etc but he mis sold us his service and its soooo frustrating that people dont believe us!

sorry i'm still ranting and its almost a week later!

    thanks for the advice
