Feeling down

claireanne89, 27 January, 2014 at 21:28 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 2

I need a little pick me up....

i get married in just over 3 months (4th may) and I'm trying my hardest to lose weight.

I've been tracking my calories on my fitness pal, joined a fitness club and started swimming and going to the gym but I'm still not losing weight!

I tried my dress on and it still fits, I'm just really disheartened that I'm not getting any where with the weight loss.

Anyone know any magic ways of losing weight?

I know how you feel, I've stopped drinking (mostly) started running and tracking my calories and for a good month saw nothing! But I am getting toned and I must be getting smaller, keep at it, and you will see results.

My advice ( that I haven't taken) is to take measurements and not always look at the scales. Good luck :-)

Do you have a lot of weight to lose? It can be a lot more challenging if you've already lost a lot and near the end of your target and really need to push yourself although it sounds like you are.
Have you tried a change of diet? Cutting out carbs & alcohol for example? Sometimes you find little things like that can make drastic changes. Do you walk a lot as well? Sounds silly but I always did my 30 day shred dvd and lost a lot of weight on it but I came to a halt at some point and started walking a lot, would go for a few mile walk round the park every day and it started shifting again so sometimes your body needs a change of habit. Also do you take your measurements? You could be losing inches and getting toned and it's just not showing on the scales? You could also be building muscle with the gym work and swimming rather than burning fat. Sometimes I like to go by a pair of tight jeans or something to motivate me rather than weighing in as it can be disheartening when really you are achieving.
Have you tried green tea? I always drink that when I want to lose weight and think it makes a difference.

    Hi Claire

Muppet is absolutely right. I am a personal trainer and would advise everyone to Ditch your scales, better still hit them with a hammer so they cant work again. (it will also feel very therapeutic) The other thing to remember is that you can vary in weight at different times of the day and indeed the month, so its not the most accurate of measures. The app you are using is a great tool for tracking calories. However, it looks at the calories you have eaten that day and then 99% of people who use it look to have a deficit. Now I am not saying you wont lose weight that way as as everyone knows, if calories in is less than calories out the GOOD right? Well the actual answer is SORT OF...

The reality is we need a base amount of calories to survive (i.e. to get through the day if we just lay blinking). Ideally we should eat the right foods at the right time. So it could just be that a. you are eating the wrong foods at the right time. Or more likely, you are not eating enough.

If you don't eat enough e.g. you miss breakfast. your body will go into what is known as starvation mode. At this point it begins to store fat as it works on a primal level. When you eat next, it takes the energy from the food you have eaten before it burns anything else (Which as you can see doesn't help)

So, have a look at your diet and if you are a member of fitness club get the to advise you and take your measurements.
