Feeling Guilty

(Claire), 19 August, 2013 at 11:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

Ray is staying in kennels for 4 days next week and I feel so bad about it. I know deep down he’ll be fine but it’s not very nice for them is it. It’s times like this I wish I didn’t live 200 miles away from my family ☹️

I know deep down that I'm being silly, and I know deep down he will be ok, I just can't shake this guilty feeling off. Who has Buster when you go away?

    He'll be ok Smiley smile

my aunt uses kennels for her dogs when she goes away and they always seem to have a good time

and think of the cuddles you'll get when you pick him up.

We have to put our cats in next summer and my h2b is already feeling guilty!xx

Normally kennels! Although my mam now has him short weekend stays now we know he can get along with all the dogs.

He's always fine, if a bit stinky, when we pick him up.

Lovely! I'm always being told I need to go to St Ives but the long drive puts me off. Let us know what you think of it, it looks beautiful. And were planned another heat wave aren't we?

With me it's more the fact that he's just not used to it, he's stayed in kennels twice but only for a night at a time, when we've gone away for a week we've took him up to my Mums. He is a resilient little thing though. I know I'm being ridiculous.

I will do! Yes it's a bit of a journey but we are leaving early doors so hoping to get a clear run through. So I've heard! Hope it's next weekend Smiley smile

Ahh if he 'knew' Rosie I'd have had him for you!!

St Ives is lovely. Try and get down to Lands End too if you can, well worth a visit. Also, the Minack Theatre is beautiful, as is St Michaels Mount.

Bit of a risk though as he hasn't been "done" yet! Imagine that! Shelta Shitz! ha!

St Michaels Mount is on the list, as is Padstowe a place called Polperro? (sp) and Foy?? Think Lands End might be a bit to far.

Might see you in Padstow then Claire!!!

We always start off at 4.15am for a clear run. Works every time and in Cornwall in time for a cream tea breakfast.

Ha ha, good point! Would be an interesting mix Smiley smile

I think it was about 40 mins in the car to Lands End from St Ives, don't quote me though as it was a few years ago now so I can't remember properly!

    So true.

Claire, it's much better that they're used to going into kennels now and then. Dogs are tying enough without never being able to leave them to go on holiday. Don't get me wrong, I adore Buster but we still like to go away every now and then and we know Buster is fine in kennels.

Does he love it as much as getting free reign on a king size bed and comfy sofa when we're at home? No. But he's never worse for wear after being in kennels.

AC they're in north Cornwall aren't they? My home! Enjoy Polzeath, I'd love to be up there right now but I was too lazy to drive there today!

Oh! We've just cancelled 4 days in Edinburgh (which I am SUPER pi$$ed off about) because our usual sitter has had last-minute problems and can't have our little Lily. Had a family meeting to decide whether to kennel her or stay home and it was unanimous. We're staying home this weekend.

I reserve the right to remain pi$$ed off though.

    Oh no kentish!

My mum and dad's dog goes to the kennels when they are on holiday. She loves it! Lots of running around outside without anyone shouting at her. Think of it as his holiday! (Not in a horrible way!)

No, she's (fairly) new. We've had her for a few months but because of 3 house moves, the wedding and a host of other stuff we've not been training her as she needs, puppy classes start next month. She gets unsettled really easily, we have a guest stay just one night and she takes 2 or 3 days to stop messing. And she's so tiny, but she thinks she can play with the big dogs and ends up getting walloped all over the show. And we're just too damned soppy. ?

She's a real people dog. Sleeps on your feet, lap, anywhere, but rarely will she lay without something of hers touching something of yours. If we go out for an hour, she's in the windowsill looking for us. If we're out for 4 hours (which is rare), she's still in the windowsill waiting for us. She's a really happy dog at home, superplayful etc. But none of us want to leave her in kennels for 4 nights the first time she goes in. I'm not anti-kennels and have used them for other dogs. She'd have gone to my MIL and loved it, but it's just not possible this time.

(Now might be the time to confess I am slightly pathetic about this dog...)

Ahh I can sort of see why you've made that decision (still not sure I'd have cancelled a holiday but I see your point a bit more!).

You know they don't mix the dogs if you don't want them to? Buster never comes into contact with other dogs in kennels.

To be honest that didn't occur to me. We tried loads of dog-sitters in their own home but we couldn't find any and the kennels 2 people recommended to us are all about the 'holiday' for the dogs, the website is covered in the dogs all hanging out together, having fun, like dogs do Smiley smile
