Feeling guilty about being off sick

Vikster79, 12 June, 2012 at 09:39 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I am currently sporting eyes like pi&& holes in the snow, a raging headache and the shakes, but feel bad if I tell work i need to go home.

I was a trooper ? this morning and actually got myself to work, but feeling dreadful now. Unfortunately the woman who i am supposed to be working with is in her third month of being signed off sick and i have terrible guilt for leaving them in the poo. Does anyone else feel bad when they take time off or is it just me ?

I am the same, in the 3 years I've been in my job I've had one day off sick (I had been sent home the day before!) and I feel really guilty, although some folk know the 'limit' of sick days each year before they have to account for them and take the exact number of days. These people get treated no differently to others day to day, so it's obviously just us mugs who feel guilty about the odd day off sick when we NEED it!

I don't get sick pay, so that's an incentive for me to go in when I'm ill. If I'm off I don't feel bad as I know there was no way I could have made it in.

I always feel so guilty, so have barely had anytime off sick in the last few years, even though some people are off a few days every month, and nothing gets said to them

I hate being off sick, I was rough as anything last Thurs/Fri but soldiered on as I'm only a month into my new job - I then spend the whole weekend regretting not having gone home because I just got worse and worse!!

I hate taking time off sick, my boss is not the most sympathetic of people and is also a workaholic and so expects everyone else to be the same.

I used to feel guilty in my old job, the managers made you feel like you were doing something wrong if you didnt come in. On the other hand, they also made you feel bad if you came in with a cold.

This year so far I have had 3 occassions, which is unusual for me, I never go sick. I had a week off in Jan for my wisdom teeth op, 3days in April with Laryngitis and a week later I had to phone in sick as I had a bug - TMI coming out of both ends and imodium wouldnt touch it. I walked halfway to work too! They made me feel like cr@p for it.

We don't get paid for being off sick either, It's amazing how few people take sick days since they changed it! I can't think of the last time I was so ill that I couldn't go in but yes I do feel guilty when it happens.
