Feeling rather angry - Rant alert!

lovelygirl, 1 November, 2010 at 21:32 Posted on Planning 0 15

Well seeing as I chose to change the date I have started phoning round to let people know, I always knew grandad was going to moan about it! and that is ok, he goes to his boat in the south of france ever summer seemingly since time began. Anyway phoned him and he moaned and moaned and the bit that really irked me was "for family weddings I normally give x amount but seeing as i can't come (substitute won't) I will give you double" how cheap does he think that i am that i would rather have the money than him at my wedding! Yes money is tight, but when people die you would still much rather have them there than the inheritance!!! I am i being overly sensitive or bridezillarish but i am feeling so cross about it!

Sucks a bit, sorry Smiley sad

I'd have said "I'll use half of the money you're going to give to book you a flight then so you can be here for our wedding because we'd really like you to be here" and see what his response was.

Well that was his reason for giving us double was half was it would cost to come back and then go back to the boat!

Try not to take it personally. I wonder if it was his way of venting his disappointment at missing it?? Some people don't know how to vocalise their feelings well.

Why can't he just put it off a bit then go to his precious boat :/ Or go earlier so he can come back earlier for your wedding. My Dad goes to Thailand every single year for the month of November.. my wedding is booked for November, now I'm worried he'll do the same as your Grandad lol!

On a seperate note, my Grandad wont be coming to my wedding, he wont get an invite as he hasn't bothered to talk to me in 20 years, as far as I'm concerned, I have no living Grandfathers.

I feel your pain, my Nan isn't coming if her dog is still alive. Feels great that I'm less important than a dog (don't get me wrong, I love dogs - but really). Try not to let it make you feel too angry xx

Don't tempt me! Nah, I get that her dog is important. But when she told me, and I cried, she was shocked how upset I was!

Oh my goodness, I'd be so upset if my grandfather couldn't come. He's 92 years old in just over a month and still flies to the USA to see mum & dad, and to Switzerland to see me at Christmas. We all fly back regularly to see him.

Guess some grandads just aren't the same way... Don't fret lovelygirl, sounds like you have your values in place.

Tell him (despite you likely needing the extra cash - like most of us here) that he can stick his money, if you cant have him there, you don't want his 'replacement'. Money can't replace a loved one and tell him at his age surely he would know this.

    xx

ps, if i were you i would've had a major rant Smiley winking xx

I already went down the line of inheritance is not a human substitute and most people me included would much rather have there loved ones there! I think i shall just leave it alone until i see him at christmas.
