Sorry it's taken almost 4 weeks but better late than never.
Thursday 19th August
My other half had now finished work so we had a bit of a lie in and a nice breakfast and headed off into town to get some last minute bits at about 11.30. We needed to get our flower girls a gift each and a pen for the guest book.
We were due to meet the lady supplying our sashes at 1.30 at a halfway point between our house and their HQ. We arrived on time and waited about 20 mins, no one had shown as yet. getting worried. Stupidly I hadn't brought her number with me so OH had to use the internet on his phone to find a number to ring. Eventually we spoke to the lady who had thought we were meeting at a different time and hadn't left yet. We couldn't hang around any longer as we were due at our reception venue at 2pm to start dressing the room and basically to make sure it was done how we wanted it to be. The sash lady said she would deliver the sashes to the venue that evening which was fine. Family and friends were great and there ended up being about 8 of us there sorting favour boxes, name cards and table confetti. everything was sorted within an hour and a half. The chair covers were being washed so the wedding co ordinator said she would do this in the morning. Everything was going smoothly.
Myself, both bridesmaids and mum had a nail appointment at 4pm so we left the reception venue at 3.30 this was the last time I saw my OH before i would see him standing at the alter on our wedding day!!! We had a kiss and cuddle and I felt a bit teary to be leaving him. That evening OH was in charge of picking up the cake and delivering it back to the venue. I was a little scared of this thought and had visions of our cake sliding around the boot of his car!! I asked him to send me a picture of it as neither of us had seen it completely finished and I wanted proof it was still intact.I was so excited when I received the text as the cake was stunning!!!
Me and the girls had a lovely couple of hours at the beauty salon having our nails done, having a girly gossip with cups of coffee and trashy mags. I also had my eyebrows waxed which was a first for me, everyone thought I was brave having it done just the night before the wedding day but it was fine they hardly went red at all. Nails done, at 7pm we were off to the chinese leaving my dad to go off for a few beers with OH and the lads.
We were all back to my parents at about 10.30 quite tired after a few glasses of wine and all the excitement. It still hadn't quite sunk in that it was my wedding in the morning. I WAS GETTING MARRIED.
me and my bridesmaid were sleeping top to toe that night which was lovely as it felt as though we were back at school having a sleep over. we talked about the day ahead for an hour or so then fell asleep.
I had been checking the weather forecast for about 2 weeks and showers were predicted, unfortunately at midnight the night before the forcast remained the same. fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Friday 20th August MY WEDDING DAY!!!
I looked out the window and it was cloudy with light rain, but I thought to myself there was a few hours for it to dry up before I had to go outside. not to worry.
So I slept quite well, my dog was also staying at my parents with me and he had a restless night being somewhere different and was a bit whiney so I heard him a couple of times during the night. I woke up at 5 am 6 am then finally got up at seven. No one else in the house was stirring so I crept downstairs and wasted some time on facebook. My OH was online and it was nice to have a quick chat, we finished by writing 'see you at the church!!' It was beginning to become real now.
After about half an hour everyone else was up, dad took the dogs for a long walk (i think he wanted to escape the girliness) the make up lady arrived and started doing the bridesmaids make up whilst I was in the shower. All still going smoothly. My SILTB was doing my hair and arrived at 9.30 to make a start. we then started on the bucks fizz and pastries my mum had bought us for breakfast. yummy.Hair was finished in an hour then we swapped, my turn for make up and bridesmaids for hair.
We were all aware that mum and bridesmaids were due to leave at 12pm. it was 11.15 and the flowers were yet to arrive. my dad now back and a bit of a panicker he suggested we phoned the florist. As he picked up the phone it started to ring and it was the florist saying they were on their way and wanted directions to the house. panic over. The flowers blew me away they were just so pretty and exactly what I imagined them to look like. i was even more chuffed that the ribbon on the flower girls pomanders was a perfect colour match. With my hair and make up complete mum had just enough time to get me into my dress before the car arrived. I think my dad was gobsmacked when he saw me and after a short pause he told me i looked beautiful. (i wasn't to cry I'd just had my make up done!!)
11.55 the car arrived for mum and bridemaids/flowergirls and the 5 of them left the house in a bit of a whirlwind of "have you got your flowers/camera" and telling me what I needed to remember to do before the car came back for me.
So the next half an hour, while waiting for the car to come back, was time for me to check and double check I had garter, earrings, flowers, horse shoe, touch up lip gloss, shoes on etc. My dad however was panicking again. I had to help him with his shirt buttons, cufflinks and button hole!!!! actually it was quite an emotional moment as I helped him calm down. I did have 10 mins to do everything I needed to do. then it was time, the car was here and we were off to the church. The rain had stopped and the ground had dried up just in time!!! still cloudy but so happy
We had a 1920s Austin a beautiful, but slow car and we arrived 10 mins late. On the way cars stopped to let us through and people on the pavement waved as I went past, I felt like the queen!!!!
On arrivnig at the church I was suprised at how many people were waiting outside to see me go in so I gave them a wave. The photographer met me at the car and we had a few minutes of photos before it was time to walk up the steps to the church door. My bridemaids did a fab job straightening out my train and holding down my veil (it was quite windy by now.) The vicar greeted me and gave me a minute to compose myself then it was time to walk down the aisle.
I focussed on just walking, til I got to the end where my OH turned around and whisperred to me that I looked beautiful. The service was lovely and neither of us cried which was a miracle!!! we managed to have a few photos outside before the rain started again but to be honest we were so happy and busy that we didn't really notice the weather at the time.
It was such a lovely moment walking into the reception room, to see that all the planning and hard work had come together, because it looked perfect everything as it should be.
Writing this report has been fun, remembering the whole day again it certainly was the best day of our lives so far.
well done if you have got this far!!!
