Finally ordered my ring....

loobylou1979, 2 December, 2010 at 20:13 Posted on Planning 0 16

Had real trouble finding one I liked, then when I found one in Goldmiths, it was discontinued in white gold!

Smooch to the rescue ? Ordering it in 3mm so will be a little daintier than this one:

    That's the important thing!

I would like a WR with no stones in it but I did worry it might be too plain, yours has shown me that there's still some really stylish options without stones - I do really love it!

Did you see many rings you liked before choosing this one, or did this one stand out straightaway?

Purty. I like twist rings, after muchos searching I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going for too. I need a shaped one to fit around my engagement ring but for some illogical reason, even though I have no intention of ever wearing the wedding ring without the engagement ring, I really want a wedding ring that won't look odd if I wear it on its own.

They have a very similar syle ring in Goldsmiths that they sell in Platinum and when I first started looking , they did in White Gold but when I decided to order it the white gold had been discontinued-I was sooo disappointed but even more delighted when I found this one, I really did have everything crossed that it would look as good on...and thankfully it looked better.

I found that the diamond and diamond cut rings took the sparkleyness away from my ER (a solitaire), but the normal band rings didn't sit at all well next to it.

Smooch have got a good deal on this one at the mo, but have lots of others to look at too.

Have you tried any on yet? It may help you to see that diamondless doesn't necessarily mean plain ?

OOooooooo i love it i need a shaped one aswell either a bit cut out or they were showing me a wish bone type ring which wasn't for me and didn't sit right at all with my engagement ring. I have never been on Smooch is it will have a look ?

Hi, it seems that you have decided on a twist ring (the one here does look rather nice I must say), but I wanted to let you know there are other options. I have a rather sticky-outy engagement ring, and it would not sit well with a WR. I tried some shaped rings (not like this one I hasten to add), but they looked rather horrible and bulky sat alongside my ER. I want something plain and elegant so as not to detract from the ER.

The jeweller has suggested a way of removing some of the bottom of the ER so that it fits over the top of a plain wedding band. My SIL had it done and it looked rather good, so that is what I am going to do. The jeweller says it willl slightly weaken the ER, but only slightly and he would recommend this, rather than go for a shaped one.

Hey, if you find one you like, just give them a call-the price depends on depth, gold, diamonds etc but they are really helpful. I think they have various offers so it may be worth asking them about those too. I think they range from £300 to how ever much you want to spend really!

I think that WR is gorgeous loobylou - what does your ER look like???

I've got a split band on my ER so had to get my WR made and I totally love it - they both sit together perfectly and look really unusual.

Getting rings made sounds expensive but in actual fact, sometimes it works out cheaper than buying out of a high street jewellers - its worth considering.

I agree, we are getting some family heirlooms melted down and made into new rings. The cost, £50 per ring!

Thanks Gillsy, this is my ER:

It fits really snugly against the twist in the band. Can't wait to get it-should hopefully get it in 6 weeks!
