Finding a band?

CountDuckula, 15 May, 2008 at 21:46 Posted on Planning 0 13

So, just where do I start looking for a band? I don't really fancy spending my weekends scouring pubs and seeing if any of their live acts are any good so are there any decent websites that I can search on? Where do I start?

Alternatively, if anyone has any recommendations for a band in the Surrey area who are a bit 'with it' and not totally naff then I would be most grateful ? (you may be able to tell I am not so keen on a band but OH is insistent!)

We're using a band we found through www.alivenetwork.com (I think that's the website, but a Google search should bring them up). From when we put in our inital request I cannot praise the company enough. The next day I was phoned and advised which band they recommended. Within the week I'd received a CD so I could listen to the band. All the way through so far any queries I've had have been responded to personally within 24 hours. Obviously I won't know what the band is like until 9th August, but I'm impressed with the service so far.

You can search for what type of music you want, what your price range is and your location, then they bring up a selection of bands to choose from.

    Hey

our venue is a golf club so has other funcions as well. we asked them if they could recommend anyone and who they have had before. then we new the band would be ok. also we got a chance to see the band perform which was important for us. we have a 70 funk/soul band at my h2b request. so maybe its worth asking your venue.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them all out later. There was one band on the list of preferred suppliers from the venue but they weren't really what we were looking for.

We want a mix of music, someone who can everything from 60's to modern stuff. Something a bit more rocky rather than funky/soulful. Oh, and it has to be a male vocalist too ?

Try our website www.imaginethebeatles.co.uk and if you are interested get in touch. We have performed at many of the "Hitched" girls weddings. Look forward to hearing from you.

I suppose that unlike most I am lucky in that I am CEO of an entertainment agency. From the comments so far it would seem that this is something most have not considered. It can take the headache out of finding what you are looking for and an agency can supply any location. I would say though that you pay for what you get so if you want quality be prepared to pay alittle extra. If you want ideas take a look at our website www.cee-worldwide.com perhaps it might help. As for myself I am getting married abroad and have arranged all my entertainment, but that said I did have all the resources at my fingertips so to speak. I wish everyone good luck and best wishes for their big day.

I approached one of those 'Find me a band please' companies and got extortionate prices coz i'm sure they band will part with a fee too. In the end I just googled for local bands and listened to their websites...

good luck in finding what you want!

Pity that you don't want a soul band! I'm in Surrey and we're using a band called Soul Machine. They're friends, so we'd heard them play already!

If you have a rethink let me know, and I'll ask Iain what their website is!

Good luck with looking! I'm sure you'll find someone suitable!

We had Azure at our wedding:

    www.happeningentertainment.com

They were absolutely fantastic, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Sounds like they might be reasonably close to what you're looking for. Loads of guests have said what a great band they were and even H and his band were impressed with their musical skills (which never happens!).

They were fairly pricey although I managed to negotiate them down a fair bit and feel like we got a good deal.

    Hi ashke,

To be honest I hadn't read the rules with regard to advertising. I was mearly pointing out that an agency can be of help and that the one of which I am CEO might give some others ideas, I am not saying that people have to or should use us. Yes I had noticed the original posting date as well, however I am sure that there are many who perhaps read this blog, I think that the recent posts show that to be the case, who might want answers to the same or similar question.

I have published articles on why entertainment agencies are the smart choice, at least the reputable ones. People are free to do as they wish and I firmly believe that they should. As I said previously I am lucky in that I have alot of information to hand and all my entertainment is booked. My partner and I are getting married in Antigua in a few weeks time and I have a band flying in for the occasion from the USA.

Personally I feel that any information that makes life easier for others is a good thing, and reading the blogs it would seem that others have also posted links, so I am not the only culprit. I think that were I just trying to advertise then I would not be responding to your comment rather I would have just let it go. The link I added is available on numerous wedding sites, and in numerous directories worldwide, so can be accessed via many ways. If I wanted to advertise I'd take out a proper advertisement, no one has to use the link if they choose not to.

I hope that my response does not offend anyone. I believe in being open.
