Fire and surround help

Rhea, 18 July, 2009 at 17:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

We are doing up our front room and have the money to put a fire back in the room. The previous owner had blocked it up. We live in a 1930’s semi, and have two very large (new) sofas that are a wee bit old fashioned. They are brown/cream with leather arms. I just can’t seem to find one that will look nice and fit in with the rest of the furniture. We don’t have a huge budget and the ones I like are £1500 plus lol Can anyone give me some inspiration? I am getting stressed because I am no good at putting things together.

TIA

Are you looking for a gas fire or open fire, or what? My suggestion would be to go to a salvage yard to look for one.

Hi sorry forgot to say it will be open fire. I went to several yards today and they were expensive and most of the ones I like would need a fair bit of TLC and I need it qute quickly. I have seen this on ebay and its ok not quite what I am looking for http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=190321144258

We have this (although the insert is highlighted with bits of silver) http://www.galleryfireplaces.co.uk/show_product.php?from_flash=1&product_id=529

If you shop online loads of places stock gallery fires - ours is also a solid fuel fire (although we had to get the chimney's lined first which cost £££) so you will have to get a chimney sweep out to check the chimney is sound first of all ?
