First Dance

JonesyToBe, 30 January, 2012 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi would appreciate some advice Smiley smile

I'm 21 and my hubby-to-be is 25 and we are really struggling for a song for the first dance!

'our song' is Tim Burg-Seek Bromance but I dont really think that would be the best choice.

Any advice

Thanku

Tonii xxxx

Me and my OH are struggling to think of one too. I think we're going with Greatest Day by Take That

We were going to be having James Morrison 'You Make it Real' ( I just love him but OH not as crazy about it as I was), then after someone created a similar post another hitcher was having Use Somebody by Kings of Leon, however the Pixie Lott version, so we have decided on this as OH loves that song, there is lots of different versions of it so going to get the band to do an acousticy version somewhere between KoL and Pixie Lott x

Hi welcome to hitched. If you type first dance songs in the search box it will bring up lots of older threads with lots of choices ?

I am also struggling. Our song is Breakfast in America and don't think that would go down very well!

We want something that isn't too slow or too soppy and has a bit of a beat to dance to. I went to a wedding a couple of years ago and they picked a really beautiful quirky song but it didn't have a beat that was easy to dance to and they looked really awkward.

I like Ray LaMontangne- 'You Are The Best Thing', he likes The Kooks- 'She Moves in Her Own Way' best thing to do it get a list of contenders and see which you feel most comfortable with dancing to.

    Hi Tonii Smiley smile

Choosing the song is tricky, but it becomes easier if you've got the dance to go with it ?
How about Argentine Tango? It's really a perfect choice for a wedding dance, beautiful and intimate too. I'm sure you've seen the tango on Strictly... it's not as hard as it looks and it is so stunning the guests will be amazed!

Let me know if you'd like to know more.
Good luck with all the prep for the wedding!

We're the same, we have some similar music tastes but our favourites vary massively... we both love We Are Going To Be Friends by the White Stripes which has THE cutest lyrics, but wouldn't even know where to start on dancing to it!!

At the moment we are having dangerousLy in love by beyonce. The other one we like can't help falling in love with you by Elvis but someone said it was depressing and it put us off! It also doesn't fit in with the young feel our wedding will have (were 26, only a few oldies at the wedding and will be all hip hop rnb garage and funky house music)

As its a song we both like and its kinda fun. But im going off it now, we have such different tastes in music though. Im an Eminem, Dr Dre, Linkin Park girl and hes a Glen Campbell, Slim Whitman guy....so very hard to find a song we both like. Smiley sad

I wanted Kiss by Prince but OH vetoed it! LOL!

We are torn between 3 at the moment. Too good to be true by Andy Williams, She by Elvis Costello and Yellow by Coldplay.

    Ah good choice!

Despite being 25 I am a huge fan of 50s/60s and motown music and thankfully, my OH kinda likes this too so our DJ will be tasked with playing a huge amount of that kinda stuff... not quite sure White Stripes fits in with that but it is such a great song... we were also thinking of that for signing the register though!

I'm also stuck with entrance songs... our venue is v modern so I don't want anything overly traditional - I LOVE 'Sea of Love', Cat Powers version from Juno, the lyrics are lovely, it mentions the sea (our venue is on the sea) and it's emotional enough to get the tears haha. OH isn't a huge fan though! We also both love Twilight (well, I'm OBSESSED and OH likes it) and I love Iron and Wine Flightless Bird American Mouth but it's a cheesefest!

I found this hard too as i didnt want a slow song. We have now chosen Michael Buble's Everything as its fun and eveyone can join us without having to be in a couple.

We are having Al Green 'Lets Stay Together'

Me and OH have very different taste in music and this is the only song we have agreed on.

I love the first verse ...

I, I'm so in love with you

Whatever you want to do is alright with me

'Cause you make me feel so brand new

And I want to spend my life with you
