First dance dilemma! What are you all having??

MrsLBtoB, 2 November, 2015 at 09:00 Posted on Planning 0 31

Morning all!

So..... OH and I cannot decide on a first dance.

We dont have a 'song' as such but the songs that remind us of each other aren't appropriate for a wedding first dance.

We dont want anything super cheesy but would like a song that starts off quite slow but then picks up a bit.

Everything I've suggested he doesn't like and he hasn't really brought much to the table apart from 1 or 2 songs that I'm not overly sure I like.

So wondered what you are all having so it may give us some much needed inspiration!!

Thanks all x

I'm thinking either art gunfunkel I only have eyes for you or being as I'm in Lapland dancing in the snow frozen in time.

After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, we're probably going to have Lonestar 'With My Eyes Open'.

OH is a huge fan of theirs, and we would have probably had 'Amazed' but some friends had it as their first dance last year so figured we needed something different.

There are lots of songs out there and your first dance doesn't necessarily have to be slow at all. I'm planning on going straight into 'The Wobble' by VIC as the second song. Completely inappropriate and not my usual cup of tea, but it's a family favourite and should hopefully get most people on the dancefloor!

We want something with a beat too as its the bit me and OH are dreading!

We'll have been together 14 years by the wedding- we love each other but are not a soppy lovie dovey couple.

We've got it to goo goo dolls - Iris, or Bryan Adams Heaven

Its your wedding, so i think you should be able to have any song you like whether it be conventional or not x

Debating either Too Good To Be True (which OH sings to me all the time), or a flashmob to Daft Punk's Get Lucky.

We had The One by Kodaline, the perfect mix for us - not too slow, not too fast.

We're having My Girl by the Temptations (I know it's one-sided but he suggested it and it's a great song!!). My entire wedding playlist is going to be very Motown-heavy.

Me and my OH hate the idea of a first dance - we're not really into the thought of dancing about with two left feet in front of an audience...So we are having a first domestic Smiley smile When everyone thinks its time for the dance we are going to have my dad announce us in like boxers and then have a piñata battle to 'Fell in Love with a Girl' by The White Stripes Smiley smile

I'm currently having this, keep going oh but it'll be lovely. Neither of us can really dance is his excuse, but I've said I don't mind looking like awkward primary school swaying - still haven't convinced him though. If I get to have one we'll be having Al Green ft Joss Stone: How to Mend a Broken heart

My fella wants You and Me by The Wannadies. He's got absolutely no rhythm and can't dance to save his life lol. He'll be much happier just bouncing around. I'd prefer something slightly more romantic, but hey ho lol. Still to decide on a compromise, but the words to it are very appropriate...

At some point in the evening (don't know about first dance, but if he wants to bounce I want this first) I plan to get my sister to sing Etta James At Last. Sums up everything and sis has an amazing voice for this stuff

Love that song and you could get up and dance half way through with all your bridal party so only half a song and not on your own.

Might suggest we go for that first so he can get rid of some nervous energy, and get everyone up with us so we can go into something a bit slower afterwards and not be out there alone. Not sure I want to be prime viewing either, and I've got a background in dancing lol

    Hi

were having an Avenged Sevenfold song. I have no idea what it's called but the OH loves the band and the lyrics are suitable lovey dovey. I've given him free reign on the first dance song as I've made the decisions on pretty much everything else.... haha! I'll let him have this one ;-)

It is so difficult, there's songs we both like but some are a bit too fast and i cant find slower versions.

Im not sure i am brave enough to give him total control of the 1st dance... haha

I would have had a mumford and sons song as that is the reason we met... but none are suitable!

So we are having Kodaline The One following by A Thousand Years... then a total change and we have a ceilidh! Smiley smile

Love You and Me, we've having it as our recessional song.

Being quite boring with our first dance with From this moment- Shania Twain. I just love Shania Twain and wanted this song since I was a little girl.

We didn't want anything cheesy and didn't want a slow dance as we both prefer to bounce around. We're both more into rock/punk but couldn't agree on a song we both liked equally.

In the end we completely binned the idea of a romantic song and went for Rocking Around The Christmas Tree. We got married on 29th of December and it's in Home Alone, which is one of our fav films. Makes me smile every time I hear it now.

We're having this dilemma too! My OH cannot dance for ***. Seriously. I've seen toddlers with better rhythm.

I've suggested we do Queen 'Now I'm Here' and start the slow bit together awkwardly bopping, then he runs off and gets his guitar (he's a musician) and he can just rock out and hide behind his guitar, while me and my bridesmaids do a flash mob thing. At the end there can be a second guitar and I run up and start playing with him (I do not have a musical bone in my body, but can dance! so it evens it up a bit ? ) and we finish like that.

We're hardly a traditional couple and aren't enamored with traditional weddings and being lovey dovey - he's not actually that sure about it though! (probably because I suggested me learning some guitar haha!)

    We'll see Smiley smile

I have seen a few people having Tale as old as time from Beauty and the beast to walk in to, and think that could be a really nice first dance song.

What about "You've Got The Love" by florence and the machine? Has a bit of a beat to it and it's got great lyrics.

We think we have whittled it down to 2 songs now Smiley smile

One is actually one he initially said no to but he's now listened to it properly and listened to the words and its now his front runner so we are getting somewhere!

We are also looking for songs for signing the register so all of these suggestions are helpful!

    Thanks all x

It took us ages to decide on a song and ended up being a pretty last minute decision!

But we chose she always gets what she wants by prime circle.

Its a song oh has sung to me lots and we both really like it so it made dancing to it that bit nicer!!
