First Dance Song

EmmaJo, 29 November, 2011 at 12:31 Posted on Planning 0 38

We have been thinking for weeks! Still haven't chosen our perfect first dance song.

We want something romantic, but not cheesy, not too fast or too slow, probably but not necessarily quite modern.

Looking for some extra inspiration! Any suggestions or thoughts very welcome.

Emma.

I love the Kings of Leon - Use Somebody. I'm sure there have been a few long threads on here where everybody has said what they're having, might be worth searching through one of those for ideas

We've finally decided on I'm Yours by The Script. We're also having a second dance because our eldest wanted to dance with me so we thought we'd have a family dance ?. Just to reduce the fluffiness though we've chosen Bruno Mars - Marry You ?

We had "True Love Ways" by Buddy Holly. H is a massive Buddy fan (he does have a look of him) and it was also quite a short, slow song.

We were dead set on what we were having until I bought OH Ed Sheerans album for his birthday. His song Kiss Me is a gorgeous song. One of the lines is 'I'm falling for your eyes' which is what OH said when we met. Alot of what he sings really relates to me and OH so we're having that.

We had "Baby I love you - The Ramones"

Tomorrows Wedding has DJ Sammy - Heaven (candlelight remix). Lonestar - Amazed is pretty popular. This year has been pretty random with Avenged Sevenfold, The Cure, Madness, Elbow and a pretty ecliptic mix of songs, slow and fast.

I always feel its a very personal song, and we all have songs that remind us of when we met our partner.

For you, there is no wrong song - perhaps grab a bottle of wine and spend a few hours listening to your favourite bands!

We want Iron and Wines version of Such Great Heights (original is Postal Service). We saw Iron and Wine perform this and he started off a cappella before playing his guitar. It was wonderful and confirmed what we had been thinking about having the song. It is a bit slow but that is better than too fast which I think requires more dancing techniques! At least slow can be just hugging and slowly circling. The words are about a couple who are so happy together they don't want to have to join the real world. I love the line "the freckles in our eyes are perfectly aligned".

This has been such a tough decision for us as we didn't have 'our song'

But I think we've finally settled on Eric Benet - Spend My Life With You the lyrics are just beautiful and it brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it.
