First dance song dilemma?!

beckimas, 23 January, 2014 at 13:59 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi, the fiancé and I have been searching through websites for weeks now trying to pick a first dance song. We originally said we didn't want a song that's been done a thousand times before and we don't really have 'a song' so we've just been listening to loads of different options.

We heard last night 'unchained melody' by robson and Jerome and we both got goosebumps. It's the only one we've come across where we just looked straight at each other and thought 'YES'.

It may sound ridiculous but I'm worried people will hear it and think 'eurgh this is soppy' or 'not this again'. I know I shouldn't be worried but I think this forum my have made me like it lol (still love it though)

What are people's thoughts?

I think it's lovely, and beautifully romantic! Do a bit of googling to see how popular it is as a first dance?

I think that it's your day (you and fiance) and if you like the song and are both happy with it then go for it. Who cares what other people think. They can have the song they like at their wedding (or have already had it if they are married). This is about the two of you and your marriage and the love you have for each other. So go for what you both like then when you are dancing together it will mean something to the pair of you.

Oh god please don't have the ghastly Robson and Jerome version! It is a fab, classic song but the Righteous Brothers original is so much better. It is quite soppy but that is what weddings are about, no?

Deciding on a first dance song that both yourself and H2B like is hard enough without bringing other people in to it. Have a dance around the front room to it and see how you feel then

Stop worrying about what other people think! Although, I have to say I'd go with the original by the Righteous Brothers rather than Robson and Jerome - having said that, if it is that version and only that version that gives you goosebumps - have it and sod what anyone says!!! Our song is one that has been redone by Boyzone but we're having the original because it means the world to us and I just know everyone is going to say - that's not the right one - we don't care Smiley smile

Who cares what other people think? If it's the song that gave you both goosebumps after weeks of hunting, then it doesn't matter if nobody else likes it.

My dad turned up his nose when I told him what my first dance song was. It's by a band I love, and initially when my fiancé suggested it, I didn't think it was the right song....until Months later I saw it used on Four Weddings, and that made me realise I did want it!
