First post: any suggestions for favours around £1 please?

linds0605, 22 January, 2013 at 09:02 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi everyone, this is my first post as I'm really struggling for favour ideas. We are getting married on 29th June this year and have 50 day guests + around 17 children (mostly under 10). My fiancé and I have been together for almost 12 years and we have 2 children already so we are keeping to a fairly small budget (or at least trying to) for the wedding.

We were hoping to spend around a £1 each favour for the adults and more for the children. Initially we thought just about a lucky dip lottery ticket for the men and something else for the ladies but now they are increasing in price to £2!!!

The only idea I really have is a retro fortune teller an perhaps a wedding fortune cookie. I know you can buy some silver wedding fortune tellers but some of the reviews say they are quite small, has anyone seen these and can recommend? The other option is to make our own - not sure how easy that will be?

Any other ideas or comments would be appreciated - we are having an old Hollywood theme so things like homemade jam don't really fit.

We also need to put a kids pack together so again I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

thanks

Google "Fudge Fancies" - this is what we're having for favours. They're £1 each.

We are just having love hearts in purple organza

bags. Bought the bags from eBay think I got 100 for about £5 and you can buy 100 sticks on mini love hearts for £7. Def cheaper to do it yourself.

I got my favours from Pilgrim chocolate . Lovely service and really nice chocolates . I paid a bit extra for ribbon on each box but I think without it works out just over a quid .

    Hi Linds,

With regards to fortune cookies, why not visit a chinese supermarket? You should be able to stock up on some there. Also, if you have a warehouse type store near you - a Macro or Sima, for example - you could bulk buy sweets?

Or get together with your mum, bridesmaids etc and make biscuits? You can do this for pretty cheap and cut them into Hollywood inspired shapes - a glam dress shape maybe - or decorate them with edible glitter for a glamorous look? Square biscuits could be decorated to look like a bit of film strip...

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

You can get fortune cookies, boxes and ribbon from the link below. There are a variety of styles and colours to choose from https://www.buntingandbarrow.co.uk/wedding-decoration-ideas

My Mum's made hearts for the ladies with their names embroidered on and stuffed with lavender, they're v pretty! For the men I've decided to make chilli jam in mini jam jars. Have paid £12 for the jam jars for 36 and not sure how much the ingredients are, around a tenner I guess but it'll make loads.

For the fudge fancies, are you boxing them up yourself or do they provide individual boxes?

There has already been some cheaper options suggested but with the lotto
The increase to £2 is not going to be until the Autumn so you should be ok with that, also I think that there has been some backlash against it and I wouldn't be surprised if they do not go ahead with it.

    I'm all over this!!!

I got all seeing eye glass keyrings for my guests (The weddings in Greece and it a very Greek thing). I bought them in bulk from Aliexpress.com which is a chinese company. The service was great and shipping was really cheap. They came in around £1 and are gorgeous. I'm attaching a label to each of them and they are serving as place names too.

Just had a quick look and they've got film clapper board ones. Perfect for a hollywood theme. What do you think?

Have you thought about skipping the adult favours altogether and spending the £50 on something else for the wedding? additional food or drink perhaps? Just a suggetion but a common view here is that favours can be forgotten and just left on tables so if you're on a budget it might be worth directing the money elsewhere.

Hi Jules, we are having a candy buffet but I can't get my head around not having a little favour on the table for everyone. I know it's not essential but we would like to have a small token. Maybe candy bags with a message though could work and double up as a place name perhaps? Thanks for your advice.
