First slight wedding snag, total rant!

rachel2012, 1 August, 2012 at 11:42 Posted on Planning 0 13

So we have just hit our first wedding snag, not bad I think being 2 days shy of 3 months away.

Basically we are getting married an hour an half away, the place has rooms in the house that sleep 95 and self catering lodges which sleep an addtional 70 people in the grounds, my OH phoned up today to book a lodge for the night before and got told that a wedding party that are getting married on the Sunday have provisionally booked all the lodges for the Sat night meaning that our guests could not use them, was sat at my desk trying to stop the tears! I was straight on the phone to the venue where the women told me I should have been told that I should have provisionally booked all the lodges when we booked the venue, needless to say I was not, her next excuse was that these had been booked for ages, to which I pointed out that my wedding had been booked there for over 2 years and if I had been told at the time that I needed to provisionally book them then I would have done so 2 years ago! None of our guests live there and will now have no where to stay! She finally relented and has phoned the other bride who luckly only wants 2 of them so there is still enough room for our guests. Phew rant over!

I'm really glad that you've managed to get it sorted, I can imagine how stressed and upset you must have been.

To be honest, I'm surprised that you'd left it until 3 months before the wedding to book accommodation though, particularly if it was so important to you. It's one of the questions you should have asked when you booked the venue.

Thank goodness it's all worked out well in the end!

The house is exclusively ours for the day so the accommodation was never really a question and we where told that we couldnt book the lodges till the house was full so needed to get that sorted before, some guests have tried to book the lodges but got told they couldnt till we had confirmed that the house was full which we cant confirm till we have the RSVP's. Have just had to tell them that we have enough people for the house so that people that want the lodges can book them.

I feel a bit bad that we have booked all the rooms in our venue for the Friday and Saturday night as our guests are travelling 100 miles, however since found out there is another wedding on the Friday so that couple have got no rooms booked. I'm pretty sure they booked their wedding before us though, so I'm hoping that they are local and don't need any otherwise they would have booked them. Has caused confusion already though as her name is Claire too. Don't really like the idea of another wedding going on whilst we are all there the night before, but not much I can do about it really!

I've covered Weddings in hotels that have two ceremonies on the same day (I know, it doesn't sound good does it!)

I bet you can imagine the stress over who had rooms and the best photo venues!

The stress was getting pretty high, I knew it was all going to well, found the venue, TOG D.J, dresses, shoes and everything else really easy, was just going that little to well to stay that way, am now steeling myself for the next blow!!

    Glad it's sorted for you.

Our venue has 10 rooms plus the honeymoon suite, Fri, Sat or Sun rooms have to have them as part of the package but we only get the night of the wedding, if we want to stay the night before it depends on if there is another wedding the day before, even if there isn't, we have to wait till 3 months before in case they get a late booking!

But the nearest other accomodation is 2mins down the road, a lovely boutique pub/b&b type place and I've got all the rooms blocked out for the night before and night of. So if anything does happen at our venue the day before they won't be able to get any rooms there because I got in first!! Just the way it goes I guess.

Glad you have it sorted, sounds like a bit of a nightmare.

Im probably going to sound really mean now but if i was the Friday bride i wouldnt be happy that my guests have no where to stay the night of my wedding. She is now going to have the same problem as you, what if her guests arent local either? And to say its annoying that there is another wedding there the day before yours isnt really nice either. How will the Friday bride feel knowing that there are strangers staying at the hotel on her wedding night.

Sorry if that sounded to blunt.

I'm assuming this is in reply to me given that the OP didn't mention a Fri night?

If it is, then you seem to have misread - I do not have the venue rooms on the Fri night, it is a pub b&b down the road so nothing to do with the venue. If there is a Fri wedding then their guests will simply have to stay at one of the other local hotels.
