first time for anything!

navychick, 3 January, 2010 at 20:24 Posted on Planning 0 4

Not only am i a first time user to the website but also a first time bride to be - at my age (40 in 2 weeks) can't quite believe it! spent the majority of my 20's too busy enjoying myself as a singleton without any committments! but now after being together for almost 5 years my boyfriend (or rather fiance) proposed to me on his birthday in front of all my family. he's been married twice (yes twice) before and it took a lot of courage for him to do this. i want this wedding to be special for all concerned. he has two daughters from his first marriage so i need to be sure that they feel just as important as us.

First stumbling block.... we are having a civil ceremony - due to his first marriage in a church and the second in the local registry office! costs need to be kept to a minimum but between us we have quite a large family, plus we want all of our friends to be invited in the evening.

Does anyone know of any good reasonably priced venues for the civil ceremony, the wedding breakfast and an evening do in the Lincoln area? any suggestions would be most welcome.

wedding's not planned until 2011, so lots of time to think about it all!!

Thanks in advance

Hi trudy and welcome to hitched! congrats on your engagement. i live in lincoln and have looked at a few websites for that area. i think the best thing to do would just be to order as many brochures as you can and look through them and then decide what to see.

you can still get married in the registry office as far as i know so don't worry about that! its cheaper to do it there than pay for the registrar to come out to you.

    good luck with the planning!

Hi - thanks for the quick reply! problem is t'other half doesn't want to get married in the same registry office as his last one! otherwise, it would be soo much easier...

thanks for the advice though - wedding not planned til 2011 so plenty of time, although i want to book the venue, reception etc, then can just sit back and relax!

am waiting for replies back from the county assembly rooms and the judges lodgings in Lincoln - somewhere different from the hotels in the area!

hope all goes well with yours

Ah right fair enough then. i didnt know you could have weddings at the judges lodgings. i'm quite keen to look at the white hart but we still haven't decided for definite where we'll do it yet.
