First visit to dress shop tomorrow!! Updated - bought a dress!!!

narie, 26 October, 2010 at 22:20 Posted on Planning 0 10

Well, I did it, I went along and tried on sooooo many dresses... amazing how they can make you feel like a princess! The first shop the woman was very helful and I tried on 11 dresses.... got down to 2 which i then said i would re visit with my bridesmaid in a couple of weeks... price tags though showed that they were on the pricey side of my budget.

Then I went in another more family run shop and it was so lovely... the lady was so helpful and honestly every dress I tried on made me feel like a princess... finally nailed it down to two... until I tried THE dress on.... and it was gorgeous!! It said its gold.... but really ivory (as on the website it says it comes in diamond white, white and gold) And it was a bargain at 480.... the veil that went with it was a bit more.. so going to save for it!

Now I am having niggly feelings that I bought it too soon!? Its all paid for... and am going back for fittings nearer the time, and they are going to have it dry cleaned for me (as it is sample dress).

If you are having niggly feelings about it then dont purchase it yet. I purchased a dress which I 'thought' was the one but it needed a lot of alteration for it to be right. A few months later I saw another dress that was a style that I had really wanted in my heart, once I tried it on I totally fell in love with it and I was smiling from ear to ear, it felt beautiful and I was so comfortable in it, it really made me feel a million dollars. When my Mum saw me in it she just gasped and her reaction was totally different to when I put on the 1st one so I just knew...this was it.

I ended up selling the 1st one on ebay. ?

That is a truly beautiful and elegant dress - stunning. I think we all wobble at times - Mrs Howard to be's dress on here still makes me wobble whenever I see it! - but that really is a lovely lovely dress. ?

I think when you know you know. I went alone and did it in one day. Its paid for now and I'm happy. Every now and again I think oh god, what if its a mistake, what if its not the one, nd the berketex ad isnt helping! but I know that when I put it on again, I'll be sure.

Thankyou for the replies.... i am not really wobbling about the dress.. when i had it on i felt like a princess and then with the gorgeous veil (at 179 pound!!!) it truley looked gorgous.. think i am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the fact that i have bought a dress on the first day of looking... I thought it might take a bit of time... it must be fate! Didn't want to risk going back in a couple of weeks and finding it sold!

To say i hate clothes shopping is to put it mildly, I did a practice run with a friend to a charity shop that does wedding dresses and they literally led up the stairs and i played dress up for 2 hours in this time i worked out what i wanted and then put a fiver in their charity box....

I then went with my mum to the wedding dress outlet shop in burbage for my first proper shopping had appointment at another shop later in the day and on the sunday aswell. We I tried on one dress was not so keen, then the 2nd dress i tried on i felt amazing, it was beautiful and near enough exactly what i wanted (the only difference was that it was buttons not a corset back) I tried on a further 6 dresses but i was smitten, I bought the dress there and then and took it home and cancelled all the other appointment. SO you are not the only one who bought their dress this way! Once you know it was the right one for you i would not worry whether it was the 1st, 4th or 40th shop!

I found my dress in the third shop I looked in and ordered it a week later when I went back with my mum and ordered it 12 months before my wedding. I have had a couple of little wobbles but I just think back to how I felt in it and I know I made the right decision.
