First/Second Dance Help Please - I need some opinions...

laura2107, 2 February, 2011 at 13:56 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi!!!!

After you have had your first dance with your new husband are you traditionally supposed to dance with your father??? The thing is my dad isnt the one walking me down the isle. My parents split up a few years ago and he hasnt been around because of his new partner! (She is very controlling and we remind him of his 'old' life!! - Long Story) My uncle is doing the honours and is very proud to do so. I couldnt have asked for anyone better to do it. After my dance should I have a dance with him as you would do with your father? or do you not have one with your father?

Is anyone having their second dance with their fathers or whoever will be walking them down the isle? Someone mentioned it to me and now im a bit confused on what to do....help please! lol

Thanks for reading!! xxx

You can, but you don't have to - just like the "first dance", it's an optional extra and not a legal requirement of getting married.

It's entirely up to you, basically.

Sadly, my Dad isn't here anymore and it's my cousin who's 'giving me away'. So I think we'll just go with one 'first dance' and then straight on with the party. If my Dad had been here though I would most def have had a dance with him.

    Hi

we are having a 1st dance just OH and I and then we thought that was it - but DJ recommended a 2nd dance - we picked Michael Buble - Everything - where we can invite people to join us on the floor.

3rd dance is Dancing Queen to get the party (this sat eeek) started!

    Hope that Helps

Were going to have our first 3 dances (not 100% decided but thinking 'honeyz finally found' (took us a while to get together properly so words are very appropriate) a Michael Buble and then maybe Etta James ' At Last'...

Im having the father daughter dance later in the evening - last dance before buffet Im thinkin and band will ask any other fathers & daughters to join us if they wish.

I have only been DJ at a couple of wedding where there was a second dance, but the idea is a good one if you are comfotabel with it and you want to dance with your Uncle then go ahead, but do not feel you have to have a second dance.

Out of the 25 odd weddings I went to last year only about 3 had second dances with fathers. A whole bunch ended up dancing with brothers or with OH again.

Personally when september comes around I don't think I'll be having a second dance. I met my fiancee while Lindy Hop Dancing but my parents really don't know. My Dad's very alpha male and anti dancing so I'm kinda wondering what's going to happen when he finds out I can actually dance. This coule be fun...
