Flash me your Mums outfits!

We are going shopping in a few weeks to look for an outfit for my mum. For her 56 years of age she is relatively trendy and is not keen on some of the more traditional mother of the bride outfits. For ideas, can any of you flash what your mums will be wearing?

My Mum's exactly the same, she's early 60s but found that a lot of the specific MoB shops we went into the clothes were really old fashioned.

My Mum got her's from Phase Eight. We found the department stores the best for modern MoB clothes, John Lewis and Debenhams. Mother in law got hers from Linea/ country casuals jacket.

My Mum bought her outfit a month after we got engaged. She looks really good in it and it is much nicer in 'real life' -

She's going to team it with a grey fur shrug to keep her warm. I've already told her no hats or massive fascinators - they look ridiculous.

They vary enormously from shop to shop. You are more likely to find them in small boutiques (the sort that specialise in evening wear, day at the races, that sort of outfit) rather than high street stores but not particularly MOB shops. I looked in loads of MOB shops and I found that as soon as you mention the word 'daughter or son's wedding' they automatically usher you to a corner where the prices start at £800 plus !! A lot of MOB shops outfits are also quite "Mummsy" and frumpy and that's definitely not for me! I walked out of quite a few because the assistants insisted on showing me colours that I specifically said I didn't want because they didn't suit me. The average price range of John Charles in West Yorkshire is £275 - £600 but the beauty of them is that most of them come with short jackets with very stylish classic dresses so you can wear them again without the jacket in various ways. If you Google John Charles, it should come up with a range of boutiques that stock them.

Regarding does the MOB outfit have to match the colour theme... as a Mum, my answer is NO WAY!!! Sorry, but it's a special day for Mums too and they need to both look and feel good in what they are wearing and need to wear colours that suit them not the Bride Smiley winking

Can I just add: are your Moms and MIL2b's liasing re:outfits?

OHs mom and my mom are going shopping together to make sure they don't mis-match. eg: My mom wears a huge hat when MoG wears a teeny facinator etc, or my Mom wears a formal jacket when OHs mom has a shrug or whatever?

My MIL is noutoriously fussy despite the way she looks - she isn't a skinny minnie, she isn't bug either, she's just really well proportioned which makes a shift dress/suit jacket so suitable..

Whereas my Mom is a size 18-20 and a definate apple shape which makes her a lot more difficult to dress.
