Flash me your table numbers?

*Mini*, 17 April, 2011 at 16:53 Posted on Planning 0 10

So moving on from yesterdays dramas I am looking at how to set up the tables and how to indicate which is which. I already have the names and the table centres are currently vintage cake plates so how would you go about attaching them?

Give me a flash of yours, you know you want too!

It's going to have to be pretty stable to support china plates. What about fixing them to those mini tripods that hold digitial camaeras, perhaps wrapped in ribbon. Or you can get plastic plate stands, often seen on welsh dresses for commemorative plates, they are two piece and slot together, are quite light weight but do the job well. Not v high though.....x

Mine were oversized postcards, held up on 12" silver stands.

Are you vintage cake plates single ones or tiered ones?

If they are single you could use plate stands so that they are upright and seen easier?

Could you photograph them (in a really funky way) and then have the photograph on a stand with the name?

Mine are pre-folded ones by the company we're using. Can you stand something on the top of your cake-stand? Here's a wee flash anyway:

We went to Ikea yesterday and bought "Tolsby" for our table names, at £1.01 each.

They have two thin sheets of perspex which you can slide an image in, back to back, so you can be double sided or have two different pictures if you want.

We're naming our tables after trees to go along with our forest theme, so they'll be Oak, Sycamore etc. They are just plastic so I think it would be quite easy to spray them with a primer then your colour (or at least a close match) if you wanted to go that way rather than white.

Also at Ikea is "Finlir" at £3.77, a heart shaped clear perspex one, if that's more to your fancy.

Glad to assist. We also picked up some square vases for a couple of quid each for use on our table centres, and are going back for a "Stave" 70cm square mirror at £15, to use as a table plan - we're going to use double sided tape to stick the printed bits on to the glass, then we should be able to clean it off after use and use the mirror somewhere in the house as an actual mirror.

I can't say I particularly enjoyed "the Ikea experience", almost felt like being on a conveyor belt and it's almost impossible to go back and get something once you've passed it as you're going against the tide - but I think if I can find my helmet and pads I will give it a try again. Will probably go to the Southampton one when we're on holiday down that way in a few weeks.

AJ you bloomin legend, the rectangle ones are not really us but the heart ones need a trip to southampton to see what they are like in the flesh.

What did you do for your centes? Did you ditch the fibre optics thingys?

    Mini:

What are you putting on the table centres? Could you have cakes with the number on in icing? Or a photo of a cupcake with icing on?
