Flash your cakes...

pips123, 10 February, 2009 at 19:22 Posted on Planning 0 5

... and please include the price as well if you don't mind! I was going to get a 4 tier one from The English Cheesecake Company, but they have just upped their prices to £375. I don't know if this is realistic amount to be spending on a cake (that serves 80-100 people), so it would really help if you could show me what you're having.

TIA ?

£200 and it will be customised with sugarpaste calla lillies instead of fake as pictured and thistles. There will be a shimmer over the cake as well.

Brilliant, thank you everyone. Looks like £375 is a bit steep then!

    Hiya

Feel free to have a look at my website for inspiration on designs etc.

As far as price is concerned, like everything to do with weddings you can pay anything from about £30 (cheapest supermarket cake) to over £1000 for a wedding cake.

I'm not sure what you were going to have that's £375 - is it a cheesecake (as in cream cheese, fruit topping type cheesecake) or a cake made out of cheeses (i.e. cheddar, stilton etc) ? Either way you may not be comparing like with like if you're comparing the price of that with a more traditional iced wedding cake.

It will also depend on where you are - I think £240 is cheap for a 3 tier cake but suppliers in the North do tend to be less expensive than those of us down South.

My 3 tier wedding cakes start from about £300 and go up to £600/£700 depending on the complexity and I think I'm fairly average priced for the quality and service I'm offering in the area I'm in.

Whether a price is reasonable or not depends on where the cake sits in your list of priorities and how much you're prepared to spend to get what you want. Most of the standard/average type designs I make can probably be sourced cheaper from another local supplier but there are advantages and disadvantages to everything which are usually reflected in the price.

Thank you Catherine, that was really helpful. I'm in Yorkshire, and the cake is actually a 4 tier one that comes with a stand, and is an actual cheescake (not blocks of cheese, but creamy stuff on a biscuit base!). It sounds like it might be something I end up getting! I do love cake, and if there's room in the budget then I'll definitely get it. Thanks for your help and advice.
