Flashes for inspiration?.…Pleeeeease!!

Miss Twizz, 28 March, 2013 at 17:02 Posted on Planning 0 7

Well, as soon as I started to think about my wedding after getting engaged on Christmas day I had 3 colour combinations in my head immediately. I loved the idea of two tone, one main colour and another complimentary colour scattered about. I jumped straight on: Deep Red & Gold, Purple & Gold or Purple and Teal.

After a short amount of investigation I quickly found that Purple is VERY popular at weddings at the moment. This is good because there is lots of “weddingy” stuff around in plenty of shades for matching and so on and also a LOT of pictures etc to help with inspiration. Because of this, whether a stupid move or not, I decided that I would go with the Red option to be a little more different.

I am starting to think this may have been a stupid move! I am not the most creative or imaginative ever – I’m not hopeless but I do have more trouble visualising than some others do! I think, because of this I should have run with my purple ideas so that there was oodles around to help me visualise and pick out ideas I’d like to incorporate. It’s not too far into planning for me to change if I need to, only our Save the Date cards have gone (in deep red and gold), and I am hoping to have a shabby chic sort of day which I think I can make work better with red than purple.

If anyone out there has/had a Red wedding I would LOVE to see moodboards/pics of venue decoration, flowers etc etc and opinions on how easy/difficult it was to match everything to a similar shade given the wild variation of "red". I specifically wanted deep red as opposed to postbox red but seem to struggle to find things in this shade MUCH more than purple.

Same goes if you have/had a two tone wedding (in any colours!) just so I can get ideas on which small things I can use Gold accents on, as I said I’m struggling to visualise!

I was thinking of a mixture of deep red and gold scatter crystals over the tables, red BM dresses with a Gold sash and Red & Ivory flowers with Gold ribbon. I would also LOVE ivory/cream birdcage centrepieces with similar flowers inside/around. However, as I said I’m not totally confident in my visualisation of this and with the popularity of Purple and Pink at the moment I am struggling to find moodboards and pictures to help me out!

Sorry if I rambled on a bit there – but please, if you can, post some flashes and help a struggling semi-unimaginative girl out! Thanks ? xx

I think your red/gold colours sounds great! It's good to be different! I was thinking purples too as I love the colour - but as u say its so popular at weddings and I fancy having something different but not sure what! Yellow is in my head at the moment but I can't see my BMs wanting to wear yellow!

Stick with it! Smiley smile x

I had red and gold for my wedding although that was 9 years ago now. I think it goes lovely togther and we had deep red. I think dont get too hung up at matching every thing exactly the same shade, one shade lighter or darker tends to go rather well and it is lovely with gold accents. I have got some ribbon swatches I can take a picture of in the morning with different shades of deep red there are 5 on here that go really well together and compliment each other really well. Also one of different golds as well if that is any use to you. Some of the darker reds look really nice with the dark purples as well if you wanted to bring that it in. There are loads of ideas on pinintrest http://pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=red+and+gold+wedding and also have a look at some Hindu weddings ( i think ti is hindu) as they are mainly red and gold in their theme and whilst the themes may not be the same the wedding colours are.

I shall now stop wittering on

My colours are baby pink and red. These are the things I have in red:

OH is having a red cravat, hanky and buttonhole:

My bouquet will be a mixture of red, pink and white (you could do something like this if you wanted but without the pink, and perhaps some gold leaves or something in there?):

We are having red bows on chair covers:

    And my shoes:

Thankyou DM-2-B and venart I will have a look at those sites

Chloe24 I think yellow would be beautiful! I’d love yellow, it’s one of my favourite colours but we’re getting married in February so need darker, more “wintery” colours. For a spring or summer wedding I think yellow would be really lovely! Go for it! If you like it, it’s your day

Vgbear – thankyou it’s reassuring to know that others have done it and it worked! Any photos would be great ? thanks for the tip on Hindu weddings I hadn’t thought of that and it’s a good point. No need to stop wittering!! Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Aurora Borealis your wedding looks like it’s going to be lovely! Your OH’s outfit is very much what I was imagining for mine. I was thinking gold ribbon in the bouquet but hadn’t thought of leaves, I guess florists shouldn’t have any trouble spraying some leaves a nice subtle gold and incorporating in the bouquet – this is a great idea, thanks! P.S. I LOVE your shoes!! ❤️

Thank you all, I’m worrying a little less about my colour choices now……. I did have quite a wobble about it but I THINK, with plenty of help and some cheeky “borrowing” of ideas I might be able to make it work.

If anyone has any other ideas or flashes I’d still love to hear/see them xx
