Im asking on behalf of a friend, He bought something off a seller, paid successfully by paypal, 8 days later no goods, contacted seller over the next two days- no replies, next thing he gets a letter from fleabay saying the seller has logged an unpaid dispute and the seller says that the two of you have have mutually agreed to withdraw from the transaction.

1- seller had no contact with my friend, wouldnt reply to his emails.

2- my friend paid in all good faith.

3-when my friend checked to cancell his payment from paypal, it said that the seller wasnt even registered.

4-my friend contacted fleabay to ask for thier help cos fleabay was saying that my friend may get a strike against them

5-fleabay are asking my friend to telephone the seller to mutually come to an agreement over this issue.

question,

1- does this sound dodgy?

2-should fleabay being doing more to help my friend?

Did your friend pay by paypal either directly from his own 'My Ebay' page or directly through paypal using the seller's email address? If the latter then he's likely been scammed.

The seller can't not be registered with paypal if your friend paid via paypal so he's either sent your mate a false link to pay through or unregistered (but the transaction would still show in your friends account).

It all sounds dodgier than a dodgey thing, sorry. But it also sounds like there's more to the story. I may be able to help more, if you don't want to give details here you can PM me with the item number. I've helped others Hitchers with this sort of thing before.

    About to go to bed....

Has you mate replied to the open Paypal dispute. If no, do it asap.

The seller has a duty to get the item to the buyer. No excuses acceptable.

Can;t remember what else, but it's all about the seller (&bending over backwards) these days. It's a buyers market

Hi, i dont know anything more - sorry!

I think he would have paid in the normal mannor, you know when you win, you press pay now and then thru paypal. Is this the scamming way?

Also can fleabay give out buyers personal details? such as adressess/phone numbers?

    thanks again.

Without the item number I can only guess as to what's happened, whether the seller has a bad history or if it's likely that the seller has hacked somebody elses id.

If your friend paid directly through 'pay now', he has nothing to worry about in terms of a strike. He should reply to the ebay unpaid item strike stating that he paid via Paypal. Even if the seller is no longer registered with Paypal (meaning he's cleared his account and closed it) the transaction will still be recorded on your friend's account, in actual fact if he goes to the auction page it should tell him at the top that he has paid via paypal along with the date and time.

Check the auction page to see if it stated that the auction had Paypal's buyer protection, if so your friend can still open an item not received dispute via the paypal dispute console in his account. Even if the seller has done a bunk Paypal should still give him a refund and pursue the seller for the money.

Yes you can obtain the details ebay hold on record for a buyer or a seller, only if you have been involved in a transaction with them. You can pull the seller's details here:
