Fleabay w@nker, I'm absolutely fuming! WWYD?

Kaz_76, 17 December, 2008 at 18:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Won an auction last night for an item that retails new around £200, was 2nd hand but good condition so to get it for £40 was a bit of a steal! However, it wasn't a ridiculous price as completed listings for the same item go as low as £30, average abound £60 and a few a bit higher.

I got a message last night shortly after winning from the seller saying "please don't buy it please email me"

Hmmm....!

Well, obviously I had bought it and they knew that so I took it to mean don't pay for it through paypal.

My suspision is that they didn't get what they wanted for it, are gutted to sell it for so little. Anyway, at first I just ignored the email and sent a message through fleabay saying please let me know if you want cash on collection or paypal. Then no reponse to that mid-day today so responded to other message saying "I obviously didnt get this message until I had bought it so please let me know payment preference".

He replied: "hi there unfortunatly it is not for sale anymore due to my friend selling it allready but didnt tell me untill last night sorry for messing you about"

?

What a load of utter bollox!

I've just replied to it now saying if you didn't get as much as you wanted, which is what i suspect happened, you should have put a researve on the item. You will find you've entered a legally binding contract so I will send payment via paypal and await your part of the deal". I guess cos I was pi$$ed off and calling his bluff. Hoever, a) i doubt i'll get anywhere and b) if he were to miraculously discover it was still available, it would be awkward to collect plus maybe they'd damage it out of spite.

I realise much of this is unlikely anyway as they will just say its gone and thats that.

is it worth trying to pursue it further?

How annoying. Can you buy another buy it now?

A 'brand new with tags' dress I bought arrived yesterday, worn with the tag repinned and reeking of Febreze or somesuch. I was so annoyed - if it's not new, just say. I don't always buy new for myself, but I do if it's a present. They sent me a shitty email with loads of CAPITALS in it today telling me where to go basically. Grrrrr.

Don't pay for it, and report them under 'seller non-performance' - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/seller-non-performance.html - look under 'Additional Information' for the link to report.

Thanks for the link but what a load of sh1te the whole thing is. Needs to have 3 complaints. well, he has 100% positive feedback so obviously sellers can avoid a reserve price fee and then pretend its already sold if they dont get what they want.

so if u only do it once, then you get clean away with it, it stinks.

Can you not just buy another one? I trade a lot on e Bay and, although it's wrong, this seems quite a minor thing. My main problem at the moment is people saying items haven't arrived (even the day after buying!) and Paypal giving them their money back. And it seems there's nothing I can do about it. I have lost quite a bit of money.

well I will have to look out for another but that really isnt the point. I might not ever get one in that condition and at that price. Like I said, I saw one completed at £30 but given its an item that needs collecting, i'm then limited to what comes up again and most others have ended at £60 plus. There are also only 3 for sale on fleabay at the mo and none within reach of me. so im incredibly pi$$ed off that people think they can just decide they dont want to sell at that price when theyve entered a contract. The 'its not for sale anymore' is particularly infuriating as well no, its not for sale is it as ive bought it ?

I know there's probably no mileage in trying to get further with it but i just need to rant!

I can see why you'd be angry, but... I guess there is always the possibility he could be telling the truth.

I recently sold a high value item on ebay and then dropped it down the stairs when I was taking it down to package up and send. The screen cracked and the casing was pretty battered. I emailed the buyer and told him what had happened and he was fine about it. I'd hate to think he thought I was being dishonest. ?

I would say that you are over reacting a bit, I can understand being annoyed after thinking you have got a result in your purchase, but to be honest the guy has been honest with you & refused payment rather than letting you pay up & you not recieving the goods.

Yes, I am probably over-reacting and realise I can't take it anywhere but it really winds me up to think people can get away with deciding they dont want to sell when they dont get the price they want without any repercussions. fark i cant spell it but you know what i mean.

Im in a bad mood generally so this hasnt helped ?

I'd be really annoyed even though I know nothing could be done about it.

Like you i'd be of the train of thought of 'if you don't want to sell it at a particular price then ensure you start the bid higher'

You can still leave a negative though can't you?
