Florist trials

McHelenz, 6 August, 2015 at 18:39 Posted on Planning 0 3

I was just wondering what happens? Are flowers are total surprise or do you have a trial with the florist?

Thanks Smiley smile

I visited my chosen florist a few weeks ago, and they told me to book a consultation with them 10-12 weeks before the big day........and it wasnt worth doing anything before then, as different flowers for different seasons, etc.

    Hope this helps.

When you start looking for florists, it's worth checking out at least 3 different ones in your local area. At the initial stage, just pop along and have a chat to see whether they are free on your wedding date and get a feel for their style of working. Florists are all individual and, like artists, have their own style. Take with you pictures of bouquets you've printed off the internet so she has an idea of what you're looking for and examples of your colour scheme. It's also worth taking a list of flowers that you absolutely hate or don't want to save time so she/he can suggest alternatives.

All florists have portfolios of wedding work they have previously done (or should have) so they will be able to show you lots of different styles of bouquets. After you have chosen the florist you want, book a consultation with them where you can sit down and talk to discuss ideas and prices and agree on a figure.

Once the date is booked, your florist normally won't need to do anything else until about 2/3 months before the wedding when finalising details takes place.

As for a trial, this isn't really practical unless you want them to make you the bouquet beforehand so you can see what it looks like in which case, it will need to be paid for so you'll be paying twice. It' s about trust really but it's the same with everything for weddings i.e., you won't know what the photos will look like until after the day,you won't know what the cake will taste like until you eat it and so on.

There are lots of ways of finding out how good or bad a florist is by checking reviews on line. If you Google the ones you are interested in booking and see what comes up. Hope that helps.

    Hi There

As a florist myself I would recommend firstly researching any suppliers your interested in (website , facebook etc)

We will usually arrange either a site visit at the venue or ask the bride/groom to come to visit us, this way they can actually see our work first hand,

If they are happy to book if they have asked for any specific colours etc we will order a sample in for a later date where the bride / groom can come back and sign off on Smiley smile

Flowers can be a big part of your budget so definitely do not leave to surprise - Unless you want to Smiley smile

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask

    Rhubarb & Bramley x
