Floundering in flowers!

Unlikley Bride, 11 January, 2013 at 14:04 Posted on Planning 0 22

Some flowers I've seen and liked: peony roses, gypsophila, button chrysanthemums, hydrangea, brasilia.

I know I want gypsophila bouquets for my BMs. That's it at the moment. I have no colour scheme either. Argh!

I really like whites, creams and pale to lime green - as I would like the BMs to wear anything on the white to beige scale, I'm hopeful this may all tie together?!

Can anyone offer any advice?

I've found these two - one showing hydrangea with traditional rose (which looks nice too) and the other showing hydrangea with some sort of chrysanthemum.

You can't really go wrong with creams, greens and whites as it's so timeless and classic and lends itself to so many different designs. The green flower looks like snowball flower but they also do a very lovely lime green chrysanthemum which is gorgeous for wedding work. You can also get hydrangea in lime and white two toned. Peonies can be expensive and depending on when you are getting married may be out of season but have a word with your florist who will be able to show you lots of photos of neutral wedding flowers.

It's a type of rose that I'm after - do peony roses exist? I have seen pictures of peonies and they are very round for my taste, whereas something I've seen which has been identified as a peony rose, by someone I know, is more to my liking.

    NB: It's a July wedding :o)

The roses which are like peonies are David Austin roses

They are gorgeous but quite expensive. Peonies are mainly at their best in May time.

That's them! TY - fingers crossed I can afford some in July.

I was looking at one of your beautiful bouquets on your website and wondered what the pale green flower is?

    Thank you so much!

Many thanks to everyone, I now have rough ideas to speak with a florist about:

    For the Church - Gypsophila

For the Reception - Pale Lime Hydrangea, Cream Dave Austin Roses, Gypsophila

My Bouquet - Cream Dave Austin Roses, Pale Lime Trachellium

    BMs Bouquets - Gypsophila

Groom's Buttonhole - Lime Button Chrysanth, Pale Lime Trachellium

    Groomsmen - Lime Button Chrysanth

I've chosen white ish flowers with greenery too. (Good taste UB!)

I was told the lime button crysanths were called kermit crysanths which sounds such a lovely name. Our wedding is Sept so no Peonies or Hydrangeas but am having roses, bouvardia, Freesias, and lisianthas for my bouquet and then extra kermits, some lillies, alstroemerias and gyp for the church.

For anyone interested in David Austin Roses - a florist told me they're about £5 a stem and quoted me £150 for a small bouquet. Ahem, I'm going to have to look for another type of flower!

Do you like tulips? One of my Brides had an amazing bouquet of tulips with frayed edges. Never seen them before. On my phone so can't flash her picture but it's like this

Wow they're cute and very different! Thank you. I bet they're expensive.

I need to find out how much garden roses are as I think they may be a good substitute. Saying that, knowing me, I'll go into a florist see something completely different and go with that ;o)

You'll find it difficult to get tulips in July as they are a Spring flower. Normal roses, once open, are brilliant for creating an English country garden look. Some roses open more than others so it depends which variety you choose. Your florist will have a book showing all the varieties available and the colours they come in. To be honest, I'm suprised that the David Austin were only £5 per stem as that is very reasonable for that brand! They are the Rolls Royce of roses though so that's the reason.

Typical of me! I always choose the most expensive things. Ah well, just like the Justin Alexander dress the David Austin Roses can go out the window!

Thank you for the heads up re dafs.
