Flower

bohobride, 4 October, 2011 at 16:08 Posted on Planning 0 11

?Hi everyone

Just wondering what people are planning for their flowers? I can't believe how expensive they are! I thought we'd have flower centrepieces on each table (10 in total) but I've been quoted bewtween £50 - £70 per table which adds alot onto our total!

Does anyone have any ideas about other centrepieces or ways of saving a bit of money?

Thanks

I'm lucky because one of my close friends' is doing our flowers so we're getting it all for a pretty reasonable price!

Have you thought about doing the flowers for your reception yourself? i.e. a simple rose in a clear vase can look lovely if you're having a vintagey theme. Get a bunch of roses from Marks/market for £20/£30, cut the stems off and pop them in individual vases?

I did the flower arangements for my friends anniversary and what i did was bought 6 bouquets of roses (white) and took some cuttings of lavender from my garden, then got some large oasis bals (3) then cut them in half then cut them so i had basically 3 strips of oasis that looked kinda like arches, then covered them in white ribbon. then i stuck the lavender all around the top edges to create like a lavender frame, then made a stripe of white roses in the centre with a sprig of lavender between each. it cost me about £50 for all the tables and looked really nice if i dont say so myself

but yeah flowers in vases works well., i went to a wedding once where they had vases with yellow roses in and one linger lilly in the middle at=nd that was very classy.

    Brilliant - thanks so much!

We're going for a rustic / country theme so these sound great. it hadn't even crossed my mind that they would cost so much! Best call in a favour from friends and family and do a bit more DIY! lol x

Stick to seasonal flowers in vases rather than designed in Oasis. Try and shop around for a new florist or a local florist away from the main high street. I'm lucky as a family friend is doing ours with a big discount, but even so we have still to be careful. think of creative ideas instead of traditional vases such as decorated jars and tins especially if you want a rustic theme. Plants are a good idea and instead of lots of flowers in church we are having decorated Bay trees.

You can also get the buckets in pastel shades of lilac, pink and pale lime as well as the aluminium too.

All of these ideas are cheap to recreate and would fit in with the Rustic Country theme:

What about pot plants etc, sounds boring but you could put them in nicer pots or decorate the pots and then give them as favours at the end?
