Flower Budget

shoegal01, 8 April, 2009 at 09:18 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi Guys,

I know some people dont like sharing their budgets and i totally understand but those of you who dont mind can you tell me how much you are spending on flowers for your wedding day.

I have been making a few enquires and i have no idea what to spend on flowers and dont know what is the kind of average people spend.

Also any florist HIBS, what would you consider a 'realistic budget' for a medium sized wedding - i know i am being quite vague there!!

thanks in advance to anyone who is happy to share

    We spent:

    My bouquet (handtied roses) £45

Bridesmaids' bouquets (smaller version of mine) £40 each

2 medium sized pedestals £75 each

    1 large (huge!) pedestal £115

9 windowsill arrangements - roses, lillies & greenery around a candle £15 each

8 table decorations - flowers in a tall vase £18.50 each

    Buttonholes £2.50 each

    Corsages (for mothers) £9.50 each

In total that came to just over £750. I think we got a really good deal, our florist works for herself, doesn't have a shop or anything so I think that definitely reduced the costs, a florist shop I asked quoted more like £80 or more for my bouquet and £4.50 for each buttonhole, just to give you an idea.

    HTH!

My silk flowers cost just over £200. That was for my bouquet, 2 adult BM's, 3 young BM's, 4 buttonholes and 3 corsages. Just picked them up yesterday actually?

They are here is you want to take a look, the quality is amazing!

    x3 Bridesmaid's bouquets

    x5 buttonholes

It helps if you do a little bit of online research and also go for a few flower consultations, then you can start to compare average prices for bouquets and things (although it's hard to get an 'average' price for flowers as it all depends on seasons, how much you use, etc)

My maximum (as in, the very top end of what I can afford!) budget for flowers, after speaking to a few florists, is:

    Bridal bouquet: £80

    Bridesmaid bouquets x3: £120

    x4 corsages: £25

    x10 male button holes: £50

    x1 Ceremony pedestal: £90

    Table centrepieces x9: £300

    Top table decoration: £80

That comes to around £745, but the florist I am most likely going with is also doing me things like tulle ribbon to decorate the pillars in our venue, as well as dried petals for the tables and my flower girl - and I'm not sure how much they cost. So those things will be on top of that.

Ideally I didn't want to spend more than about £700 though, so I will look to see if there might be ways to cut the costs down on bouquets, the pedestal and centrepieces. I think most good florists will try their best to work within your budget and give you the best look they can for a price you can afford.

    Hey Bluewater!

Yep, Ian came round to ours on Monday night actually - really lovely guy. We had a good chat about what I *think* I want, he wrote it all down and he's coming back to me with a ballpark quote within a week or so. I was going to mention you but I couldn't remember your real name! ?

    Hi

I am spending around £780, though I might be changing the table centre so maybe slightly higher .......

Brides Bouquet (hand tied) includes diamontes in centre of flowers £85

3 Adult bridesmaid, smaller version of mine £105

    2 Bridesmaids wands £17

    Grooms buttonhole £6

    8 Buttonholes £31

    2 mums corsages £14

    Top Table arrangement £65

    9 table arrangments £270

    Gazebo decoration £120

    mums bouquets £60

Also includes things like petals on tables, this also includes full set up on the day. The flowers include peonies, tulips, freesias and roses. I thought it was really reasonable, though I confess I didn't get loads of quotes, I knew what my budget was, the florist was highly recommended and we really hit it off, she shared my bright pink vision !!!!!

    JM xx

hahaha that's hilarious! (it's lucy, btw) just as a warning, it took me aaaaaaaaages to get my quote off him - i had to remind him a couple of times! despite this initial concern, i still went with him as i loved his ideas, and he's a great bloke, and despite me reminding him, i still got his quote quicker than another florist i had visited before him!

that reminds me, i must try to arrange another meeting with him!

hope all good with you x

    Hope you're good too!

It depends really on which flowers you choose some flowers are higher priced than others e.g Calla lilies would cost more than a rose.

Silk are always more competative than real - An example of a full wedding in silk flowers would be around £200.00 (and you get to see the flowers well in advance to your wedding and keep them afterwards. You can also hire different parts of you order; therefore reducing the price again

You can also do things like mix and match fresh and silk flowers - say your bouquet and grooms buttonhole in fresh and all other in silk

or all the bridal party in fresh and all reception and venue flowers in silk

For fresh flowers you are looking anywhere in the region of £300-£700 + depending on what you need and how much you can barter.

I've been given a ball park quote of £150 for the following

Bridal bouquet - Freesia, sweet pea and lily of the valley

Bridesmaid x 1 Freesia and sweet pea

    5 button holes

    3 corsages

9 vases of tulips for the tables

The Hotel does the top table/registrars table for us in the same flowers which I thought was a nice touch.

After reading all the posts I think we've a really good deal. I did have to compromise on my bouquet as I was after daffs but they will have gone over by 2 May or complete lily of the valley but that would have cost about £100 on its own!
