Flower costs?

rebecca2286, 18 June, 2010 at 08:26 Posted on Planning 0 5

So I was thinking about saving money by doing my own flowers and using foam roses, but i've been looking on various silk flowers websites and now Im not sure I can do them any cheaper myself, and they would probably look more professional if someone else did them.

But if this is the case, how much is everyone paying for real flowers?? I only want basic, hand tied roses. Probably a hand tied white roses posy for me, and smaller ones for my bridesmaids (I have three), all with blue ribbons and maybe diamantes in the top of the flowers. I also need 6 buttonholes. ANy vague ideas on price for something like that??

Thanks ladies!!!

As a rough guide, and it depends really whereabouts you are in the country, a compact hand-tied bouquet of roses which is one with no foliage in between the blooms but with just a little surrounding including diamante in the centre of the roses would be around the £60-£70 mark for yourself for the usual bridal size. You can go for smaller by having a "bridesmaid" size for yourself and having small rose sprays for the maids which would work out less expensive.

For silk, personally I'm not a lover of the foam roses as they don't feel particularly nice to touch and there are more realistic ones available for the same price. Price wise, it would be amount the same for something like this but with diamante:-

which is a compact hand-tied (ignore the colours!) or something smaller for the maids like the floral sprays:-

for around £25/£28 plus a bit extra for diamante.

    Hope that helps! Brenda

It depends on the time of year, roses are more expensive around valentines so cost would go up and it depends on the variety of roses used and number required, also what folaige etc etc the diamante does add to the price but ball park figues could be. If you are in central London etc then possibly double the price!

    Brides posy £40 to £80

    Bridesmaids £20 to £50

    Buttonholes £3 to £8

Not much help with prices but have you thought of buying the REAL flowers and doing them yourself? This is my plan. I think it would be easier to make real ones look profesional than it would silk.

Just need to find out where to buy them??

I had exactly the same quandry and eventually plumped for real flowers and with the help of an experienced friend, we did them ourselves and were very pleased with the results.

Hmm, thanks ladies!! Alot to think about.

I live in St Albans, so potentially I could get into london at stupid am to go to the flower market. But how long do they last? I wouldnt want to get up at 4am on my wedding day (or really the day before!). Would they last that long?? I have a friend who used to work for a florist who could help me put them together. I dont want anything too fancy, fairly simple as my dress is pretty OTT!

    Thanks again ladies!!

If you could go up to Nine Elms market in London you would need to be there about 4am if its a Sat wedding then on the Thursday, you have to pay to get in and take cash, plus they may not even serve you as you are not a business so with that and the cost of petrol you probably wouldn't save very much.

It worth asking local florists for prices for the basic bouquets and also if they would supply you with bunches of roses what they cahrge for that.

If you have them in wholesale bunch quantities and are prepared to do the contioning etc yourself they may do you a discounted price on the price per head. I do when I am supplying for Brides mothers to do reception flowers etc so its worth asking around.

St Albans is not that far from me in Hertford so if I can help or advise e mail me.
