Flower costs?

FutureMrsBrown, 15 July, 2011 at 13:20 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi

I'm being a bit cheeky here but I'm getting massively stressed. We are havin a friend of the family do our flowers. She is a retired florist and used to have a chain of shops. She is the best friend of my MIL2B and it's all been organised through her, I've just stated the flowers I want. We are having:

My Bouquet

4 BM bouquets

10 buttonholes

6 corsages

6 table centres

Here is the problem. With 4 weeks to go I STILL have no idea how much this is going to cost. Whenever I mention it to MIL2B she says "I can't possibly ask her about money". We have pointed out that without a figure we cannot pay her but she just repeats her mantra. I have no contact details for this woman. I know that the price of flowers changes vastly, but does anyone fancy giving be a ballpark figure of what they are paying? Just so I can decide whether to panic or relax a bit. Thanks

It's obviously going to massively depend on what flowers you are having but I would guess at least £500.

Ultimately, I would get her number now and find out the price!

Where in the country is she/you? What flowers are you having? Without that information it's a completely 'how long's a piece of string' question!

    We are in Newcastle

Yeah, you are right, its a bit of a daft question. OH is on the case now and on a mission to get her number.

Pic below shows the bouquet I am having and the table centres. Had to post the pic as I'm so thick when it comes to flowers, I know none of their names. I know it's a stupid question, I just went into panic mode, sorry

And OM Sazindie, that would be awesome if she had that in mind!

I know she is buying wholesale and I think it will be as cheap as she can make it (I'm expecting the discount to be a wedding present). I provisionally figured £500.

We had this exact problem with our photographer too

I would guess around £500 too, but could be more. Might be less. Why don't you tell your MIL2B that you need to discuss some detail about the flowers with her friend and ask for her number? If she was such a good businesswoman then I doubt she will be offended by you asking her about costs; best to leave the MIL in the dark about this part though if she is so sensitive about money-talk.

I would guess roughly around £70 for your bouquet if you are having it exactly as is with the orchids as these will be pretty expensive. Bridesmaids depends on what style but around £45/50 ish. Table centres have whole stems of orchid in which can be as much as £15 per stem so bit difficult to gauge but I would say around £55/£60 for each vase as shown although this can be cut down dramatically by not including the orchids. Buttonholes approx £6.50-£7 each, corsages around £10-£12.50 each. I would definitely contact her direct just to double check that she is on the same wavelength as you both designwise and pricewise! Hope that helps a little bit.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Rainbow, that's so helpful, thanks.

We have discussed these, when she was visiting MIL2B and we are having fake orchids in the bouquet (as they are in the picture, believe it or not) and leavin them out of the table centres, she did tell me what she would use instead but I cant recall (due to being hopeless). Button holes are just orange roses other than H2B's which will be a tigerlilly (although I'm putting money on it being a cala lilly on the day, as thats what MIL2B wanted)

Its amazing, I feel so much better just having some rough numbers in my head, but like I say OH is on the case to get the number, as I also want to order 2 bouquets which for obvious reasons MIL2B cant do (although I'm sure she would like to, as she was the person who pointed out that they "simply must be given flowers")

Artificial orchids would bring the price down a bit more rather than using fresh ones so a saving there which would probably cover the Mums thank you bouquets. Hope you manage to get hold of her without too much input from MIL2B Smiley winking
