Flower Girls

coppen30, 8 March, 2010 at 13:49 Posted on Planning 0 3

Im having 4 flowergirls at my wedding on 2nd October 10. Does anyone have any recommendations as to when i should be looking at buying their dresses? My concern is that, as they are all young, if i get the dresses too early, they may have growth spurts and i'll be stuck with dresses that don't fit. I was only going to buy high street (BHS or Debenhams).

Ages this year: one will be 9 in the November, one will be 3 in the December, one will be 6 in May and one will be 8 in April.

Many thanks

My wedding is two months before you and my 4 flower girls were measured for their dresses on Saturday.

If you're looking to buy from somewhere like BHS then you would be wise to check when they keep their stock of dresses in until. I think they only keep them in store until Spring / early Summer time?

Congratulations Trickers. Its good to know that im not the only one who thinks October is an ok month to get married!! My family thought i was mad when i picked that date as they all thought i'd have a summer wedding. Not that you can guarantee the weather in any month!

Just out of interest, when are you thinking of sending your wedding invites out?

My cousin recommended sorting the girls out 3 months before the wedding and maybe leaving the shoes until the last minute. Looking through most of the high street shops, they all seem to have flowergirl dresses the whole year through so i don't have any worries about not finding anything.

Although other peoples advise would come in very handy.

    xx

Another date twin! I'm also 2nd October and am having 1 flower girl who will be 3 in May this year (so 3 and a half at the wedding). Plus she lives in Canada so I don't even have easy access to know whether she's a 'regular' size 3 year old or taller/shorter than average, or anything! I've actually ended up buying a brand new Next Signature flowergirl dress from Ebay that cost £7.50 (£35 in the shops) - I figured if I buy a 4 year old's dress its' a lot easier to take in than buying a 3 year old dress that could end up being too small.

As for shoes, I'm going to get her Mum (one of my BMs) to buy her shoes in Canada before they come over for the wedding, that way I don't have to worry about them not fitting or not being comfortable.

I'd say if you're going to get them now, think about getting a size bigger and then get them taken in. Or, hang back and get them a bit closer to the time - originally I was planning on doing it late summer but got all impulsive on Ebay!
