Flower ideas please

kelly29, 19 January, 2009 at 20:54 Posted on Planning 0 9

I've a meeting with my florist in a fortnight. I'm sure she'll be able to give me lots of help, but I would like to go along with a few ideas and at the moment I'm pretty stumped.

As I'm sure most of you already know, my colour scheme is teal, with a touch of aqua where I can't get hold of anything in teal! I know that pink would go well but my bridesmaid's dress has lots of different greens in it and I think throwing another colour in will make everything look too busy. Also I think I quite like the idea of having all of the flowers in ivory.

Can anyone give me some ideas for my bouquet? I have no idea what shape I want so I'm looking for inspiration (tbh I don't know what half of the shapes are that I've heard described). My only stipulation is that I must have freesias in my bouquet (when I was little my dad would always buy me a small bunch of freesias whenever he bought my mum flowers so that I wouldn't feel left out!).

Thanks (as always) for your help.

Freesias will be lovely! I'm most likely having just freesias in white/ivory for my BMs... I love them and the smell is amazing.

You made me laugh when you said you got flowers so you wouldn't be left out - my Dad came home one day with flowers for Mum and a little plant for me. Mum apparently told him that he shouldn't buy me something every time she gets something as I had to know I didn't always get something... he had to apologise and explain that he had bought me the plant and then got her the flowers so she wouldn't feel left out!! ?

    Hi Kelly

I can help with pictures of the all Ivory. It can always be bulked out with Freesias where you would hold it.

    Hi Kelly,

It can be confussing working out the style you would like in a bouquet. There are handtied, which are bascially the flowers brought together in a bunch and you hold the stems. This is also the most popular bouquet. A teardop and shower are very simialr with the flowers arranged in a bouquet that drapes at one side, this is the more traditional bouquet. There is also a posy style which is like a handtied but more arranged and probably in a holder. Then there is an overarm, which you hold a little like a baby and then of course you could go for a shaped bouquet.

As for flowers, you may be lucky if you did want to add some blue shades as the first delphiniums would start coming in around April/May, giving you the option of adding some interesting blues. Potentially also you could have something blue, but the bridesmaids have all white, so you have the hint of colour and then to make sure there is no clash with the teal. Something tha works very well with freesia is hydrangea and would give you a splash of blue, as below. I ave a photo of this if youw ould like me to e-mail it to you or it is on our testimonials page at www.Orangeryflowers.co.uk You will also get some inprication on styles on there.

    Hi Kelly

Have you considered Zircon Blue Czech crystals worked into the posies and bouquet? I add these attached to silver wire when I have been asked about teal before. I usually place them between roses on handtied bouquet/posies, or ribbon hoops. Bit hard to describe, but the colour is perfect. To get an idea you can always look at my website in the brides bouquet section.

That's a good idea actually Fizziebee. I think that's the crystal I have on H2B's tiepin.

Hmmmmm. Will think about that one.

I hand wire beads, crystals & pearls into my bouquets if the Bride wants to match up a particular colour. Teal/Jade is becoming more popular & there are so many shades of it. Here are some previous examples I have made to give you some Ideas:

Have added a pic of what I do, I buy the beads from a really good shop on the web. The choice of bead colour is vast. Brides can then choose if they want coloured ribbon to match their colour scheme.
