We had a bit of this with one of our venues. We squeezed as much as we could by taking reigns of the itemized list and changing options and quantities ourselves. Still over the budget, but got closer to it, so much it is still on our shortlist.

Try and do the same, see where the price is coming from, try to work with her to adapt it from your side (this way she will know where you are prepared to compromise) and hopefully you will reach an agreement.

Otherwise, get another quote from a different florist and be happier without the argument stress

Definitely go get another quote. Were you quite specific with what you told her you wanted?

I went to one cake place with a picture of a cake i loved but it was only a 2 tier, i told her i wanted 5, but she said she would do the top 2 tiers fake because theres no way we'd actually need that much cake. She quoted us £460.

I then went to another cake place, which i knew would be a little bit more expensive but thought i might be able to haggle to get to roughly the same price but for more of a 'branded' cake if you get me.I gave them a budget of around £500. They told me that there wasnt much point in having fake tiers as they wouldnt make it that much cheaper. She then gave me a quote of approx £800!!! for the same cake!!!! She told me that my idea was not possible with the budget i had told her, and i would have to think smaller.

Needless to say, we have now gone with the original ckae place, who give us free cake everytime we pop in for a consultation.. nom nom nom!

Def best to shop around, there is always someone who will work to your budget.
