Flowers

Sloan-R, 25 September, 2010 at 12:04 Posted on Planning 0 30

I don't want a large bouquet, just a small handtied deep red posy, I know of that BUT I have no idea what flower. The obvious choice would be roses but I'm not sure I want roses. I want something that just pulls my outfit together and I don't have a clue. Anyone have any ideas what would look best?

Also if anyonw thinks another colour will be better, gimme your ideas

Oh, that's beautiful! Alstromeria is vintage looking and they come in deep red. Also orchids various shades of red, freesia or deep cream roses would look lovely with dark red orchids.

You could also have a similar brooch on the ribbon tie handle of your bouquet - these are becoming popular. You can also get diamante "buckles" especially for floristry where the ribbon threads through. Maybe add a touch of lace into the bouquet to match your dress..?

    This would look stunning:

Black Bacarra roses, Black Magic roses, Black Callas, Burgundy Cymbidiums, black dahlias, red feather sprays and red kangaroo paws.

Sorry ladies i've been away all day.

Sherrie I really like this, thanks. Would you say red is the best colour to go with what I have

What other colours have you got in your theme? Red would be a big contrast against the dress but I would use a deep Red rather than a Pillar box red. Another colour which would look good & still keep the vintage feel would be Aubergine, plum colours

Or go to the coffee, gold pale pink colours which really are vintage:

I was going to go with a really deep deep red for flowers, the only reason I chose red as my lipstick will be red, I'm going with classic pin up make up. I'm just not sure the best flower to use.

Lisa this is one part of my work that I love! I love sourcing ideas, products, colours etc. A bride can come to me with just a Dress and we can build their theme/scheme around the dress or a pair of shoes, a favourite flower anything that starts the theme.

    Hiya,

Sorry I've only just got around to replying.

Our theme is sort of Garden, birds, etc. ( we think Smiley laugh) I'm planning on having Aqua Roses in Ivory for my bouquet. Well, the florist said this morning, to cut cost (as were working to a budget) it might be a good idea for the BM's to have Ivory Gerberas which I do really like the idea of, but do you think it would be strange for them to have a different type of flower to me?

    Thanks for your help x

No not strange at all it is quite common for the Bride & Bridesmiads to have different flowers in complimenting styles.

What about teal? I'm really struggling to find flowers that match. I could go artificial I suppose...

With Teal you could use beads & ribbons to accent but if you have another colour in your scheme then I would accent with that colour. A few colours that go well with Teal are:

    Hot Pink

    Pale Pink

    Orange

    Yellow

    Ivory

Wow, this is like 'ask Sherrie' - what an inspiring thread!

Mrs G to be: we're also considering a garden theme. At the moment I like pale dusky pink but keep changing my mind!
