Flowers

tealbutterfly27, 15 July, 2013 at 22:12 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi all,

I wondered if you would mind sharing prices on flowers for the day. Perhaps what you're having with quantities etc I know prices will vary with location and probably season but I'm wondering how much I should set aside for this? I'm getting married early December in London.

I have 6 bridesmaids inc maid of honour, 6 groomsmen inc bestman, 1 flower girl, page boy. I don't think I'm too fussed about dressing the church or reception venue. Just the bouquet and button holes.

Thoughts appreciated.

Hi, congrats on engagement. We are having a church wedding but so far have only been quoted for bouquets, buttonholes and venue flowers. We are having our reception in a venue which is pretty enough without many flowers so we have decided to collect our own jam jars which we are decorating with ribbons.e are having one large jar in the centre of the tables, and a line of smaller jars along the top table. We have been quoted about 220...I think. thats for bride, 3 bridesmaids, 6 men(including groom) and buttonholes for 3 women, (mums and Grandma). I was quoted over 600 by one florist and that was just far too much for us, so we found a cheaper florist. We are having roses which are an xpensive flower but are reducing the number of roses by having larger roses, and more foliage and gypsophilia.

we are getting married in September in the midlands

The lady we're going to book with offers a gold package and it includes

    Bridal hand tied bouquet (roses)
2x bridesmaids bouquets (to match brides)
    Grooms buttonhole (rose / thistle)
    5x buttonholes (thistle)
2x lapel corsages (in any colour)
    2x pedestal displays (for ceremony/reception)
6x globe vase arrangements (with roses & steelgrass)
    Floral cake decoration

    That's a package for £450.
However she offers that price to customers using pollok house only and apparently it's very reasonable.
I don't know a lot about flowers but i know they're expensive and i think a lot of people spend £800 £900 sometimes, i'm sure you'd be able to get a good deal somewhere though and if your venue recommends any you should try that as it paid off for us x

A lot depends on the style of your bouquet and the flowers used. Roughly, a shower bouquet in the London area would be around £140 - £200 depending on the choice of flowers, hand-tied posy around £70 - £90, bridesmaids hand-tieds would be the same if adults or less if slightly smaller, buttonholes between £4 - £15 again depending on the flowers used. Corsages for ladies (which have more flowers than buttonholes) between £18 - £25 each. Difficult to say for venue arrangements as it's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string' without knowing what you would like.

Have a look at www.marilyntaylor.co.uk who is based in Herts. Marilyn used to be on here a few years ago, in fact still does pop on from time to time, and her prices will give you a good indication. It's also worth bearing in mind that fresh flower prices start to rise in mid December due to peak trading period at Christmas. Hope that helps.

The venue are doing my flowers there and I had feathers for our bouquets. But I have ordered buttonholes and corsages for the bridal party.

They are going to be an ivory flower (sorry I really can't remember what flower!) and cost £1.75 each with the corsages costing £4.99

I have spent £2,450 on the flowers. On that budget I am getting

9 large arrangements to go on the top of my candelabras

    2 large urn arrangements

3 BM bouquets, 2 thank you bouquets for the mums and my bouquet

12 aisle ends for the church

8 mens button holes and one ladies corsage

a long low alter arrangement for the church

I am also hiring the tall candelabras, hurricane vases to go on all my tables, two vases and all the candles from her within this price, plus she is transferring the arrangements from the church to the reception venue for me.

Not cheap I know but I love her work and the girl is just the loveliest person to deal with, I adore her!

We did our own flowers after I was quoted £100 for my bouquet, £45 for each bridesmaid, and £6 per button hole - I never even got as far as the arrangements.

We bought £120 worth of flowers wholesale and did it all ourselves - was enough for 3 large posies, 2 mini bouquets for flower girls, 6 button holes, and a couple dozen teacup and pot arrangements. Oh, and it took less than 2 hours to do it all between the 3 of us the day before the wedding:

BM bouquets: 3x white hydrangeas with gyp around the sides

Bridal bouquet: Cream spray roses, sweet avalanche roses, white stock, and eucalyptus.

Flower girl bouquets: gyp, akito rose, and white carnation

Button holes: sweet avalanche roses and eucalyptus

Teacups: white stock, burgundy, pink, and green carnations, cream spray roses, sweet avalanche roses, akito roses, and a couple other random green things I never knew the name of but looked good!

Not really - and I knew nearly nothing about flowers before doing it. We went to the wholesaler and just walked into their cold room and just picked out anything we liked the look of! The BM bouquets here are really really simple, but looked great. Literally we just held 3 hydrangea stems together and wrapped a bit of tape around, then placed segments of gyp around the sides and taped that on and covered the tape with ribbon. Easy peasey lemon squeezey. My bouquet was a bit more intense, but I just started with a couple roses and a stock in the middle and kept adding stuff around the outside until it was a nice shape, then added eucalyptus leaves around the sides. It was still a bit uneven and not that perfect rounded posy shape, but I think that gave it a bit more character.

DIY flowers is something I would definitely recommend any bride to be, as it can really cut down the cost of flowers without having to go the route of fake flowers (although fake flowers can look gorgeous, I'm just not a huge fan). Also, the eucalyptus I used made it smell amazing!

We spent loads on silk flowers:

Two Bay Trees with lights in urns
4 Garlands (long staircase!) with fairylights!
Two stands with flowers (6ft high each) 10 centrepieces
    Top table centrepiece with candles
    8 buttonholes
Bridal bouquet (which will be turned into an arrangement after the wedding)
    4 Bridesmaids bouquets
    2 Corsages

I seem to remember it came to around £600 and I THINK that included flower arrangements for the mums... cant remember
