Flowers

Ivorybride2014, 9 September, 2013 at 20:14 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all

I am starting to look at flower arrangements for centre pieces and bouquets and have no idea how much these would cost.

I don't mind fresh or artificial, those of you who have already ordered your flowers is there a big difference in the two?

Thanks,

Leanne

Hi - one of the main reasons why people decide on artificial flowers is because they would like to keep them afterwards. Only you can decide whether or not this is important to you personally. The comment I get most is "If I'm going to pay X for flowers, then I want them to last more than a couple of days"

Some people prefer artificial because they have allergies although not all fresh flowers trigger hayfever reactions so if you prefer fresh but are worried how you will cope with them, then have a word with your florist and she will point out the ones which are less troublesome. It's worth remembering that very few fresh flowers actually have a fragrance unless you opt for lilies, lily of the valley and certain varieties of roses. If you definitely want a fragrance, then this can also be added to artificial flowers too.

In terms of cost, flowers can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you like. There are cheap and cheerful, everyday, pop in a vase fresh flowers than can quite easily be used for wedding work as it's the design that turns them into something special. Likewise, with artificial, there is the cheaper end of the market and the top end of the market. In terms of cost, the more authentic the artificial flowers are, the more expensive they will be but the more realistic they will be too so there isn't a massive difference in cost between the two unless you particularly want flowers which are out of season. Peonies, lily of the valley, calla lilies are all examples of flowers which would probably work out less in artificial than in fresh.

Most florists will have a price guide they can show you or send you. All florists are trained to work within your budget so be honest with them and the less restrictions you place on them, the better, as it gives them a free reign to come up with the best possible results for your money. Shop around too. You'll tend to find that out of town fresh florists will work out cheaper than town centre shops because their overheads will be less.

If you want some idea of different prices for different styles of bouquets, there are prices on my website if that helps. Mine are all artificial but it will give you a rough idea.
