flowers??

Daniellax, 15 April, 2015 at 20:39 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi, I'm only recently engaged and have only just started planning my wedding however I'm having a bit of a nightmare with the flowers.

Im viewing two wedding venues this weekend but I'm struggling to figure out my budget for this as I can't get a quote for flowers. Every flower supplier I'm contacting either hasn't replied or won't give me a quote without a paid consultation.

i know the answer to this question can vary massively depending on suppliers, type of flowers and amount of flowers etc.. But can anyone tell me roughly how much they spent on flowers so I can get a rough estimate so I can budget accordingly

I've paid about £430 for my bouquet, 8 men's button holes and 12 centrepieces consisting of pu$$y willow (hitched have censored that word lol), hydrangeas and gypsophila (6 large main day tables and 6 smaller versions for evening tables)

i do feel like I've paid a bit over the odds though, although others more 'in the know' about flowers might disagree!?

We have paid about £400 for 11 centrepieces, a top table arrangement, 2 bridesmaids bouquets and 2 mums thank you bouquets. I think it depends on what type of flowers you want, mine have a fair bit of gyp and foliage but if you want certain flowers it may cost more x

We paid £130 for my bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets and 9 buttonholes. They were all gypsophila though and very simple. Me and my mum then did the table decorations etc ourselves and got the flowers from a wholesaler. It depends on what flowers you have and what time of year. Say if you want roses and your wedding is around valentines day they will cost massively more than normal. Flowers prices also fluctuate a lot - the roses we had from the wholesaler and paid nearly twice as much as they were the week before!

I paid £290 for my bouquet, 3 BM's, 8 button holes, 2 mum's corsages and 2 wall hangings. The bouquets and button holes were cala lilies so a bit more expensive than some I believe.

    Hi

I think that the budget depends on if you are having a separate church/registry office to the reception venue. If you are having separate then it will be more because there are more flowers to be used!

    We are having:

    Large bridal bouquet £80

    3 x Bridesmaids Pomanders £150

    8 x Singapore orchid button holes £40

    Church:

    Decorated bay trees £100

    2 x large pedestals £140

    1 x Church pillar decorated £70

    1 x Pulpit decorated £50

    1 x Signing table £50

    Barn:

2 x Flower sphere £300 (very large flower bomb/explosion hanging arrangements)

    15 x Table arrangements £750

    3 x Pillar arrangements £90

    Total £1,820

We are taking the pedestals from the church to the venue and we are taking the signing table for the top table.

We are having lots of colour and orchids (engaged in Thailand!) which adds to the price unfortunately, if you have lots of foliage then this will keep the costs down. A few of the girls in the office are having just one 'place' decorated and they say approx £1,200 would cover.

    Hope this helps!

As others have said, the price of flowers can vary wildly but this is what I am paying, my wedding is in june and we are having peonies, roses, sweet peas and a mixture of 'seasonal flowers' in pastel pinks, peaches and white with silvery green foliage.

Bridal bouquet, hand tied, about the size of a dinner plate - £60

BM bouquet, same as bridal but smaller - £40

Buttonholes, natural bunch style with one large flower (peony, rose or ranunculus) and selection of other small flowers - £5 each x9 - £45

Corsages, same as buttonholes but larger with 2 large flowers - £8 each x2 - £16

Top table display, traditional shape - £50

    Centrepieces, 3x vases in various sizes - £20 per table x8 - £160

Jam jars, loosely filled with seasonal flowers and foliage - £5 each x35 - £175

Floral crown for BM made with gypsophila and lightweight seasonal flowers - £20

Flower hair clip for MOB with one large rose and selection of smaller flowers wired onto hair comb - £10

so in total we are paying £576 and I think we are getting quite a lot for that price! this is the lowest quote we recieved by quite a margin but also the best florist we met with who I am 100% confident will be perfect. The price also includes delivery to 3 seperate locations on the morning of the wedding and set up at the venue.

I would visit a few local florists rather than email. A lot of suppliers are notoriously bad at not answering (or even checking) their emails! Some do give free consultations so don't get too disheartened about the reaction you've received so far! Take with you some pictures of bouquets you like so the florist can give you a rough ball park figure. Most florists have a portfolio of weddings they have previously done so you can look at these and get a few ideas too.

Thank you so much for your replies, they've been so helpful!

im having the ceremony and reception at the same venue so will hopefully save money there. I think I'm going to set aside around £700 and hope this will cover it all!
