Flowers Advice please

sdwrds, 14 November, 2009 at 22:57 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all

I have chosen my dress (not got any pics of me in it yet tho, still waiting for it to come into shop) but I was wondering if anyone could help me with what style of bouquet would go best ? I was thinking a hand tied but not sure now. Colours I wanted were hot pink, oranges and poss purples (have been advised to have a zesty lime colour too) and gerberas, stargazer lillies and fressias. Still at ideas stages tho so not 100% Dress is below.

Sorry bout pic sizes

A semi-crescent style bouquet would also compliment your dress - it's similar to a shower bouquet but angled to one side which wouldn't hide the detail on the bodice of your dress.

Also, an over-the-arm bouquet would look good. I probably wouldn't mix gerberas with lilies as they are sort of 'opposites' in the floral world - lilies are so elegant and classic that they go better with other classic flowers such as orchids and roses. Gerberas are more of a 'funloving' flower and need to be shown this way in a bouquet if you see what I mean!

Colourwise, depends on what colours your bridesmaids are in but a mix of hot pinks, oranges and purples will all work well to give a tropical look. Hope that helps.

Many thanks for the help. I have just received the quote from one of the florists I went to see and she has suggested pink gerberas, orange celosia and purple lisianthus with lime green foliage. Do you think this will work and is £50 a reasonable quote ? I love flowers that smell so would fressias or sweet peas work with this combo ?

Gerbera, celosia and lisianthus don't have a distinct fragrance but you could add freesia. Depends what time of year you are marrying as to whether sweetpeas are in season or not. £50 sounds about right to me and is about the average price for a hand-tied posy. You can get a full list of flowers and their availability and colours at the Flower Council website. I think it's www.flowercouncil.org.uk but if you Google it you should find it easily. Hope that helps.
