Flowers - silk or real?

MrsShark, 16 March, 2011 at 16:36 Posted on Planning 0 5

Okay dokay I am gathering everyone's opinions on this....

I do love flowers but I hate to see waste and spending hundreds of pounds on something that is going to wither and die in a few days does not sit well with me.

We are having table centre pieces of big goldfish bowls filled with sand, shells and a big pillar candle and so have a very small budget for flowers (most likely under £100) but I would really like just a few flowers hanging from jamjars down the 'aisle' (we are having a civil ceremony) and liked the idea of a single flower head in a few finger bowls on the table, as well as my bouquet and small bouquets for my three bridesmaids......so was just wondering what is the general consensus on silk versus real flowers on cost and appearance?

We don't have a strict colour scheme but we will be using different shades of blue in the BM dresses and groom party shirts, my OH's shirt is ivory with bronze pattern and my dress is ivory with bronze beading so anything along those lines is good with maybe a few splashes of random colour thrown in!

Here are some flashes of the kind of ideas I was thinking of;

Sorry they are so big!!

    I've just done a set of Sweet pea bouquets & they would look fab in jam jars down the aisle in pale blue & white or Ivory.

    You could use a bigger gerbera or a Chrysanth to fill the whole bowl as a centrepiece or just have bunches of sweet peas. The flowers today are far superior to many years ago or the pound shop type that are poorly manufactured from cheap fabric.

    Here are some examples lots more in my albums, there are over 3000 pics so be prepared to be bamboozled!

    Well by going on what you have put, your table arrnagements shouldnt cost the earth as there are not that many flowers in them..... If you supply the jars it will be even cheaper :-)

    AS for silk and fresh flowers- yes silk flowers are good and they do look very realistic now. You can also keep them afterwards.

    AS for fresh flowers, yes they do look really nice but if it is a hot day they will tend to wilt by the end of the day. The table arrangements shouldbe ok tho as you can put water in the jam jars- even coloured water and crystals. The flowers that are in the picture in the jam jars would wilt quite quickly without water anyway.AS for cost i would be more than happy to give you a quote then you could see how the budget would compare with fresh flowers

    Anyway hope this helps.

    Thank you very much both!

    I think the more I see silk flowers the more inclined I am to go for that option, as you say Sherrie they are leaps ahead of what they used to be!!

    I shall get some ideas together and most likely be in touch with both of you!!
