Flowers...I just cant get excited!

Flowmojo, 8 February, 2011 at 10:59 Posted on Planning 0 34

So currently on our list is visiting florists, getting quotes and what not. Now i as much as the next girl LOVES a nice bunch of flowers and admire beautiful bunches (Mr Flow hates that i buy random bouquest to fill vases all round the house!) but when it comes to Wedding Flowers, im not getting excited, or feeling it, or admiring the florists work.......and ive seen some good florists!! Normally, seeing a pretty bunch of roses makes me go all 'ahhhhhhhh' but im not.

My dress have small roses on it so am keeping with them but all im seeing is the same old same old bridal bouquest and button holes!!

Meh ?

Anyone else have this?!

I think there's a lot of 'blah' about with wedding flowers - some of what I saw can't have updated their portfolios since the 80s! Then I stumbled across a girl at the wedding show who had a really nice bouquet on display - not the right colours but the sort of thing I thought would work.

Have you had a good nose online? If you can stand to trawl through all the dodgy webistesd then there are some beautiful flower ideas out there. Also I like looking at wedding blogs to see the flowers on the day if that makes sense x

I was the same, just not as excited as I wanted to be. In the end OHs has picked the flowers for our centrepieces and church pedestall and i've picked my boquet and Mom's corsarges.

I'm keen on the standard, minimalist buttonholes and so have asked Sherrie for a sample of an artificial one - again, nothing i've seen IRL makes me think "Wow".

That said, on the day when the arrive and are real, i'm sure i'll feel differently.

I know what you mean, all the bridal magazines have the same styles of flowers... If you like the usual bouquets of flowers you buy, why not just go and get some ideas from them, and then use those ideas in the bridal bouquet? And... great chance to buy flowers! x

Hmm maybe you ned to keep looking for a florist or show us some photos of ones you like to see if hitched can help your enthusiasm. (Sp?)

I was lucky I knew when I had found the right florist as we were both getting excited talking about flowers.

I had a very rose based boquet and happy to flash if you want a nose but it was verysimple in it's own way.

I recently saw a venue decorated not with flowers but with very tall vases and enormous feathers - was stunning and very different!

    don't say you didn't ask.

Bms had small psoys with same roses and freesias mixed in

Our flowers had a country garden type theme if anything, I have phots of floral heart, table centers etc etc if you want to see anything else just ask I was a bit flower crazy, my only real wedding wobble was not getting married late spring early summer to increase my flower choice!

Its lovley!! i like the size of yours actually.........nice and 'full'...i think my problem, well actually, the florists problem is that my dress is pink........every one i have spoken to wants ot do ivory roses for the bridal bouquet and thats it, no colour , all because of the dress!!

i love the green dotty ribbon on the bridemaids posys Smiley smile

I met one florist and didn't get very excited about it and just thought I'll have whatever is cheap and the right colours but then i found a more local lady purely to compare quotes and have now gone mad and gotten really excited about my flowers, shes costing me about £100 more than the other florist but her ideas and work are definatley worth it! Maybe keep looking? x

    Thankyou flowmojo

What sort of pink is the dress what other colours are in your wedding, florists should be able to work with this. if it's a soft pale pink what about some deep pink flowers or if you want more subtle colours, there are lots of faded type colours in roses these days. faded lilacs with white/ cream could contrast well.

Ahh I love the spotty ribbon, we had it on the BMs posies, used it to hang the floral heart, round the table decorations, and on our wheat pew ends. I loves a bit of polka dot!

Flowers was one thing that i put off for ages as well. I have to go back as it was a bit rushed but i love the ideas she came up with . I think mine will be a bit like this

Cream/pale pink and browny pink, quite vintage looking...i thought i was just going to go for plain cream. Do you think they could match the pink in your dress in your flowers to go along with the white?

I share your pain, Flow. I'm not really feeling it yet, although the florist we have is excellent. I'm sure I feel more excited about it when I sit down with her to discuss it.

Mr CB has decided that beyond the colour of them, his buttonhole and the candles, he doesn't really care *what* we have flower wise. I'm going to sort it out with my sister so at least it's an excuse for a girls' day out. We're going to do our hair trial that day too!

I wouldn't put ivory roses with your dress flow...

I would see your bouquet as more of a full posy with lots of shades of pink including a really bright one like the one Sherrie posted...

I think it really helps if you have a vague idea of what you want. I definately didn't want just floral centrepieces so with a bit of help from fellow hitchers and searching the web I found pictures of centrepieces with curly willow twigs which I adore combined with orchids and my florist was able to produce that theme right through to the bouquets and buttonholes. I too would have found looking through all of her previous work overwhelming and confusing so at least I couldn't be swayed knowing I had some idea beforehand.

There is so much inspiration on the internet and magazines.

I think it is a lot to do with finding the right person (it was with me anyway) I had a few ideas but nothing concrete, but as soon as I met my florist and heard her ideas she seemed to get what I meant... then I got excited!

I'd previously met with someone and left within 10 minutes feeling very unenthused about it all Smiley winking

    It's not their wedding!

As long as you have a mix of Pinks & maybe some green in there then it will look fine.

I must be the only female on this planet that doesn't like flowers and considers them to be the biggest waste of time and money ever so I'm really struggling with what flowers to get. I look at them and just think 'meh!'.

I really wasnt enthusiastic about the flowers at all until i met my florist. I met a few and when I met the one i'm using i was hooked. He came to meet me near my venue in a pub as he only has a workshop and is kinda freelance. He is so passionate and dedicated it really rubbed off on me. he was drawing little sketches and showing me pics and i got all excited! Cant Wait to see my flowers now.

He was WAY over budget but i think it was worth it. Flowers are something that you cant scrimp on because they will just LOOK cheap. Well, thats my opinion anyway. I went to a wedding once that was quite big, big fairtale dress, gorgeous church and grand reception..but the bride had about 5 gerberas in a bunch, the bridesmaids had one each and the groom had a tired looking buttonhole. It just didnt go....i'm all for minimalist style but it needs to fit in with the rest of the wedding i feel.

I feel a bit like that and really dont want to spend too much money on them. i have found a florsit (from someones post on hitch) who does artificial flowers at a GREAT price. I've been to see her and the quality of the flowers are very good so I have booked with her.
