Flowers..real or silk?

closetome, 12 October, 2010 at 16:57 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi Everyone

Sorry if this question has already been asked loads ?

I just wnated to know what peoples opinions are on silk flowers? I have been trying to decided whether to go for real or silk, as Im working to a strict budget and though silk maybe cheaper than real flowers. I just want them to look fake, iykwim.

Has anyone used silk flowers, and what did you think of them? Who did you use?

I'd quite like to get a sample to see what they are like before I decided on what to go for...

Thank you

Hi, I've made my own flowers with foam/silk flowers and they do look good! I can't help with cost as i never got any real flower quotes and im only having flowers in the bouquets, nowhere else. Most places will send you a sample or you can get them cheap enough on ebay if you just want a couple to compare!

Personally i dont like silk flowers and would prefer real. Shop around for quotes and see what fits your budget.

Personally I wanted fresh as I don't intend getting married again however you can get some incredibly good silk flowers now and if you are on a tight budget it may be worth thinking about silk for your tables. I don't know whereabouts in the country you are but if you live anywhere near Boarhunt in Hampshire then The Flower Mill is well worth a visit. It is an alladins cave of both silk and dried flowers and would be a great place to visit for inspiration.

Hi - there are prices on my website if that helps. There isn't a great deal of difference in price if you go for the more realistic artificial flowers but they do work out slightly cheaper than fresh if you go for the more expensive blooms of flowers such as orchids, callas etc.

Ive gone for silk as they are cheaper (couldnt believe the quote i got from a florist!) and they last longer than a couple of days!!

there are some out there that are really tacky, you need to shop around!

Im getting mine from Rainbow Flowers, a HIB, im sure Sherrie will have some photos for you! i would also reccomend checking out Sarah's Flowers website.

ALSO, you can have your flowers a few feeks in advance which will take any on the day stress!!

    Hi Guys ?

thanks for all the replies, I will definately be checking out all the recommendations.

I do love flowers, but I just find it such a waste when they die so quickly. I think silk appeals to me abit more...I'll have to get some samples.

Silk or Artificial flowers are becoming more & more popular for weddings & Celebrations due to the superior quality offered. Gone are the days of plastic dew drop roses in Garish colours to be replaced by flowers so botanically correct in every detail it is hard to tell the difference. Available in a vast array of colours and always in season you can have virtually any flower in any colour at anytime of year and unlike Fresh Flowers they are always in season.

If you or your Guests suffer with Hayfever they are perfect and you have no worries about allergies spoiling your big day.

You can purchase your flowers well in advance of your Big Day so no surprises or panic on the morning of the wedding if they are not what you expected.

For weddings abroad they are perfect, lightweight & easy to transport, they can be transported as hand luggage and a tried & tested method of transportation is a large Hat box which works perfectly.

The cost of silk is marginally cheaper than Fresh but due to the excellent quality of the flowers they are now becoming comparable to Fresh. The advantage of silk is that they can be kept indefinitely if they are stored or displayed correctly.

To store your Silk Flowers before your big day always use Acid Free Tissue paper & keep them in the box they arrive in, away from damp & direct Sunlight, which will fade them.

All of our flowers & foliage are of the highest quality and you will amazed at the detail on each flower making them indistinguishable from the real thing.

Having Artificial flowers means you have a lasting reminder of your Big day without the additional costs of having your Bouquet Preserved after the event. This can be costly and add to your floral budget.

I've actually had to do a bouquet & buttonholes on the morning of a wedding as the Bride was in tears when hers turned up the wrong colour and comepletely different flowers as the florist couldn't get the right ones!

That is the fastest I have ever done an order and got to the venue with about 30 mins to spare!!
