Following the Slim Vs Larger rants......what about Tall Vs Short?

miss.understood, 15 November, 2010 at 09:23 Posted on Planning 0 36

After the rather long threads the other day about the larger brides/grooms and the slim brides/grooms etc, i thought it might be interesting to see and understand what it's like for people at each end of the height scale.

I'm 5ft 10, and the boots i'm wearing for my wedding will make me around 6ft tall. For the making of my dress they're having to allow a little bit extra fabric in the length to cater for my height.

I just wondered how other people are getting on?

Are taller brides leaving out the heels they wanted for fear of being too tall?

The more petite brides, are you struggling to find heels to bring you to the height you want?

Just curious really xx

It's a nightmare for us - me and my H2B are exactly the same height so I've got to be careful that I don't tower over him, I don't want to look like Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise in our wedding photos...

Well I'm 3 inches taller than my OH without shoes on, so I have flats for the day as I can cope with that, but I feel like a giant in pictures if I get any taller! I'm 5'11 and haven't struggled with finding a dress, although shoes can be a problem as I have size 9s x

And this is why I usually avoid threads about height, because people seem to have such a problem with girls being taller than boys! Which I can't help being x

    Haha what a subject!

I am 5"0!! and other half is about 6".

Even when I wear big heels he is still waaaay taller:

So I have some very large heels for the photos, and am expecting a lot of alterations to be made to my dress too.

I think anyone who is significantly outside the norm - whether it's size or height - struggles. I'm 5'3" and have always had problems with dresses, as larger sizes always seem to be made for taller people.

I could wear 6" platforms and still be shorter than my OH, but what worries me about the wedding is that everyone will be taller than me - my BMs included and they're only 13 years old!

In contrast, my sister is 5'10" and her ex-hubby banned her from wearing heels for their wedding as she was already taller than him without shoes anyway. But I've seen plenty of weddings where the bride is taller than the groom because of the 'killer heels' she wore. I don't think there's anything wrong with that if it makes her feel great, it's the grooms who get an inferiority complex when the bride is taller than them.

But the beauty of wedding dresses is that they are always fitted to the bride if not specially made, so they will always be the perfect length.

The thing about NK and TC was a joke. I don't want to tower over him because I don't normally and I want our photos to look like 'us' - hence why I'm not wearing different make up to what I normally wear, why I'm not changing the colour of my hair and why I'm wearing ti down...

I'm 5'8 which isn't hugely tall, but I'm only a couple of inches shorter than Mr Spoon so am keeping an eye on the height of my heels because I don't want to be taller than him - only because I'll probably start slouching in the photos if I know I'm taller than him because it make me self-conscious!

I haven't had a problem with my dress, but about 5' of me (estimated measurement) is legs, which makes buying normal clothes very tricky - trousers are too short, and most dresses end too far up my thighs!

I'm 5'10 but my OH is a delicious 6'3 so I wont have to worry about towering over him.

Personally my height annoys me. I'd love to be one of those petite girls and tall men reeeeeeeeeeeally do it for me. I couldnt be taller than my OH, it'd turn me right off!

(no offence intended to anyone who is taller than their H2B, just my personal tastes Smiley smile )

I'm 5'2" and my OH is 5'8" - I'll def be wearing heels but nothing too high because we both like me being shorter than him. Some of my huge going out heels make me taller than him and he doesn't really like it!

One of my exes was well over 6 foot. Someone once commented that I looked like his child from a distance! Erm..!

I'm about 5'10 and i used to hate my height.

I was always the biggest out of all of my friends, both in height and weight and i hated it, i never wore heels out because i felt so self concious about towering over everyone.

I'm not quite so bothered about it and will wear heels but i still have to pick them carefully.

My OH is about 6'1 so in flats he's a bit taller then me but i do have to be careful what shoes i wear so i'm not taller then him.

Nearly every wedding dress i've tried on was slightly too short so would have had to have extra length on anything.

I don't understand why a guy should feel insecure if his partner is taller than him, with or without heels

Ooooooooooo close to me heart this one!!

I am 5"2 and my OH is 5"7 which is fine, but my BMs are 5"7 / 5"8!! so they are having to wear flats on teh day so they dont look too scarily tall over me and OH!!

I quite like my height, its always been a massive thing cos everyone i know is tall...plus gets me out of cleaning high stuff lol

There's only 5 inches between me and OH (cough cough!)..... i've always wanted to be taller than him so i can bop him on the head, even with heels and big wedding hair i was still shorter than him, i think it must be a power thing for me because i am always checking if i'm taller than him when i have heels on.

Im 5'3" ad h2b is 5'11". I hardly ever wear heels and don't really plan to on the day either. My two younger sisters who are my bridesmaids are also taller than me, i've told them they can wear what ever shoes they want. x

Im 5'11 and OH is 6'3 so in my big heels I am about the same size as him, I have not got shoes yet but think I will be going for a kinda mid height heel as I think anything too high will make my dress a bit short and also although I love heels I am a bit rubbish at walking in them (OH calls me bambi) and would like to be a bit graceful on my wedding day lol x

I'm 5ft 3 and my OH is 5ft 5 so I'm not wearing too big a heel, although he is actually wearing heels and inserts so even with my heels, he'll still be a bit taller.

I don't think he's as bothered by my height as he is of his BM who is 6ft something!

Oooh here is a thread I can relate to!

I am 5'3" so I suppose I am "short" but I have never had an issue about it or been self conscious (sp) about it.

That was until I met my MIL2B!!!

She doesn't mean anything by it but she keeps going on about my bridesmaids looking taller than me. I have three bridesmaids and they are all taller than me (despite all being younger than me). I am letting them chose their own shoes and they can have whatever they want. But MIL2B keeps saying - "what are you going to do about their shoes? they will have to be flats or small heels and you will have to have high heels otherwise they will look taller than you in the photos"

Err.... SO???!!!! I don't care a bit and I think I will still manage to stand out from them in the pics seeing as I'll be the one in a wedding dress!! ?

As for my OH he is over 6 foot but its not a big deal although he does say he gets a stiff neck bending down to kiss me all the time! ?

P.s I tease him in this picture that he's looking far too lovingly at the camera man. He teases me that Im looking at imaganairy squirells Smiley smile

I am worried that I wont be able to dance in teh platforms and then will have to change bringing up the dress will be too long issue

No that makes perfect sense, it just seems sometimes, people think it's the worst thing ever for a girl to be taller than her man (not saying you do, sorry if it came across like that) but you can't help who you fall in love with...besides, we're the same height when we're lying down ?
