Food choices- what would you do?

wintersunday, 11 August, 2013 at 12:21 Posted on Planning 0 16

Was wondering if people would tell me what they'd like from the choices I've got, for welcome drink and wedding breakfast. I've got no idea what other people will eat!

We're getting married in early December in Cheshire, so that sets the scene. For a welcome drink (probably with canapes, we haven't entirely decided), which would you prefer? Our options are Bucks Fizz, mulled wine, Kir Royale, sparkling wine, vodka cranberry and grapefruit cocktail, or Bellini available with peach schnapps, raspberry liqueur or strawberry liqueur. (All the same price and I rarely drink so it's much of a muchness to me, I'm more concerned with what my guests will like)

For wedding breakfast- our options for starters that I haven't ruled out are (no price difference):

Locally Smoked Chicken & Cured Ham With Rocket & Orange, Dressed With Balsamic Vinaigrette
Buffalo Mozzarella With Vine Ripe Tomatoes, Olives & Basil Dressing
Peppered Scotch Salmon Served On A Nicoise Salad
Smoked Trout With Apple & Potato Served With Herb Sauce
Home Made Soup Of Your Choice

Our dessert options (no price difference):

Heart Shaped Strawberry Shortbread On A Bed Of Strawberry Coulis
Lemon & Lime Soufflé Served With A Ginger Wafer
Chocolate Tart Served With A Black Cherry Compote
Raspberry Crème Brulée Served With Shortbread Biscuit
Tart Au Citron Served With Crème Fraiche
Eton Mess With Strawberry & Meringue

Or we can have our desserts custom made- I'm thinking about doing my favourite or my OH's favourite dessert.

Our main options (price difference applies)

For the basic package price- roast turkey, chicken supreme, roast chicken breast, roast pork.

For an additional £2 on top of base price, we can choose from chicken supreme with cured ham, chicken supreme with sherry sauce, roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, or a poached fillet of Scottish salmon.

For an additional £4 or so over base price, we can choose from baked salmon in filo pastry, cannon of lamb, sirloin of beef, or fillet mignon.

What takes your fancy?

Given a whole menu like this to choose from in a restaurant there isn't much I wouldn't like at all! It all sounds yummy!

For myself I would choose the salmon nicoise (Love green beans and don't cook them often as 2/5 children are fussy!), roast chicken or pork (what's not to like?), and then either the chocolate or lemon tart.

I notice that there are no veggie choices among your mains....

We have nine vegetarian options on top of this- we're going to cross that bridge when we come to it! (I'm trying to choose a main menu and then deal with any dietary requirements as they arise) It's all just so overwhelming, the number of choices. (And the price hike between the cheapest and most expensive menu really isn't that much, so I can go either way on it)

All sounds lovely and yummy Smiley smile I'm not really a drinker so can't help on the drinks. I like the sound of the smoked chicken and cured ham with rocket and orange for starter and I am roastie person so deffo roast turkey, chicken or pork would be lovely. however, I wouldn't turn down any of the other mains either Smiley tongue x

As you're getting married in December, I would go for the roast turkey main - can't wrong with it and everyone loves a Christmas dinner!

For the drink I would go for mulled wine. All of the menu options sound good but I would rule out anything overly summery e.g. the mozzarella salad and the two strawberry desserts. I would probably go for the soup, roast pork or the salmon in filo and the the souffle.

    Considering it's December..

Welcome drinks - I'm thinking Mulled Wine might please most people? I'd avoid Bucks Fizz or anything similar as I imagine you'd have the toast drink later on?

Starter - Smoked chicken & cured ham OR soup (depending on what main you pick)

Dessert - Raspberry Crème Brulee with Shortbread.

It all sounds delicious though, you can't go wrong!

Welcome drinks I would definitely do Kir Royale. One of the most simple, but one of my favourite cocktails. Creme De Cassis (blackcurrant liquer) with sparkling wine or champagne. We had it at ours was really popular.

I love mulled wine but obviously it's red wine so can make people quite sleepy before they eat.

Or can you do a mixture? At mine we had prosecco, kir royales, and then a non-alcoholic eldeflower mocktail. I would steer away from bucks fizz because I think (ahhh can I say it) it's a bit boring.

Starters wise - i think the smoked chicken one sounds fab, and they all sound nice.

Dessert - I love creme brulee so think that would go down really well, but of course they all sound fab.

I would generally steer away from beef as a main course as well, as so many people like it cooked differently...

Generally, the food choices sound lovely and have made my mouth water

I'd probably go for Vodka Cranberry for the welcome drink. Second choice would be mulled wine though - perfect for a winter wedding.

Locally Smoked Chicken & Cured Ham With Rocket & Orange, Dressed With Balsamic Vinaigrette

Raspberry Crème Brulée Served With Shortbread Biscuit

I'd be happy with the roast pork for the main - if it was slow cooked especially. Otherwise I'd have to go for the roast lamb with rosemary and garlic

    All sounds lovely! ?

    Definately mulled wine - yummmmmmmmm.

As mentioned earlier I would avoid the summery dishes such as the mozzarella and strawberries.

I also agree that people are quite picky about beef. If I see any blood or pink meat that's it, can't eat it.

I would be happy about any of the rest but would probably pick soup or salmon, chicken or turkey followed by chocolate or lemon tart.

    Personally, I would go for:

mulled wine (if you are going for a winter theme) or Bellini with raspberry liqueur.

Smoked Trout With Apple & Potato Served With Herb Sauce (but I know not everyone likes fish, so perhaps chicken and cured ham)

Lemon & Lime Soufflé Served With A Ginger Wafer or Chocolate Tart Served With A Black Cherry Compote

What's OH's favourite dessert? Maybe he could have that as a special? I did that for my H on our day ?

The lamb would definitely get my vote for main! (with rosemary and garlice)

Although as a veggie I wouldn't actually eat anything there other than dessert ? ?

    Hi there,

    Here's my thoughts....

As much as i love a Kir Royale, you're getting married in December so it's likely to be cold - why not have the mulled wine (or even warm pimms) to thaw people out if they're standing around for photos.

On the same vein i'd go for the soup for a starter, thaw people out a bit, a lovely rich Butternut Squash adn roasted red pepper soup with croutons.

main course, from your list, personally i'd have the Roast Chicken Breast, staple and warming and most carnivores like it anyway.

Desserts, from your list i'd have the creme brulee, but that's just because it's my favourite!

We're getting married in November (2014) and we're having the following:

    Soup

Roast sirloin of beef with yorkshire puddings and red onion gravy

Hot chocolate fudge cake with Ice Cream/Apple Pie and Custard

    hope my twopenneth helps! x

It depends if you are embracing the fact that it is nearly christmas or trying to avoid it. If you are embracing it i'd go for mulled wine and turkey, and i would go for soup but only because my family are to fussy for the other starters!
