Food help

Bridget Gump, 9 June, 2009 at 23:00 Posted on Planning 0 16

We are trying to think of a way to feed our guests something in between the 12pm ceremony and the 4pm sit down meal. The venue do offer canapes, but at £5 per person it's quite expensive for something that a) won't fill any one up and b) aren't that exciting.

The venue are open to ideas and willing to work to a budget, I just need to come up with some ideas for them. So far I have;

Scones with cream and jam (I like this idea but worry it's a bit too tea-party and won't go with the champagne and pimms on offer)

Cupcakes (I like this idea, h2b thinks it's a bit too random and sweet for 2pm and before dinner)

Chocolate dipped strawberries (venue's idea, I think it's a bit too fluffy and romantic for us)

Any one have any other ideas?

The scones with cream and jam sounds fab!

I am having cupcakes, but only as these are being made by my manager, else we were thinking of serving something like the strawberries and cherries dipped in chocolate.

I really am not much help am I - sorry I just overexcited at the scones!

    Hi

the scones idea sounds nice as you really only want to provide a "biting on" as we say. Nothing too much but just something to keep them going until the meal.

I wouldn't go for the chocolate and strawberries but it's very personal. I would go for something that they can eat without feeling stuffed. What about raw veggies and other nibbles eg twiglets with a few dips? Weddings are a long day and folk prepare themselves for that so go for what YOU want and what fits the budget!

hope this helps but sorry if not! xx

The scone will, most CERTAINLY go with the champagne and Pimms.

(you could serve them like this)

In my eyes Pimms and scones are synonymous with a British Summer!!

Thanks OLL, that's just the sort of thing I was thinking of. I'll suggest it to the venue and see what they charge us for them.

You do realise it's now your fault when it rains on 5th September!!

As an aside, If you had joined hitched a couple of months earlier I think I would have had very different theme wedding. Damn you and your clever ideas!

I had a gorgeous scone that looked like those yesterday. Sadly it was only accompanied by a cup of tea.

Hmm....might need to pop to the bakers now. Scones sound yummy.

In my defense, it popped up on the first page of a "strawberry wedding" google search! lol

You could give strawberries and scones away as a wedding favour, then that kills two birds with one stone?! But you'd have to tell them that they could eat them there and them.

ETA - Leave out plates of homemade shortbread and punnets of berries, with a sign saying "help yourself"

    (I'm hungry now ?)

That's a nice idea Ooh, but logictically that would have to be prepared on the day or at least the night before, which makes it a hassle I, or whoever I delegate the job to, could do with out.

Yeah, also the guests filling their own scones, whilst trying to mingle, is a bit of a nightmare too!

Does anyone know what those boxes that hold the scones in OLL's first picture are called?

Also, do you think I need to provide an alternative for those who don't like scones/strawberries/cream
